In need of reassurance (and flaming well irritated.....)
« on: February 24, 2010, 11:57:31 AM »
I'm waiting for my car to arrive - Grey 500 Esseesse. I am excited (actually make that very excited - I haven't slept properly since ordering it.....). However, I also felt a little bit guilty at the weekend and thus lovingly polished my aging Honda S2000. We have had a nine year relationship which is going to be hard to end. :o As is normal, a member of the public engaged me in conversation about it outside the local shops because it does now look great. He would, apparently, like one. "As luck would have it", I told him, "I'm selling it soon" and the conversation came round to, "what are you replacing it with?". So, I told him, formerly thinking he appeared to know a thing or two. However, he didn't so I had to explain what the A500 was. To which his only reply was, "Are you mad getting rid of this and is it a pink one?". Now, none of you know me, but the last thing I would think of myself as is a "pink" kind of girl. More to the point, please tell me I'm not mad and my new car represents as much fun as I recall from my test drive?!

I think your doing the right thing and dont worry. You chose the car not him that was just his opinion. You made yours as soon as you drove the A500 then went and ordered it so yeah id say you made the right choice.

Chap at work last night was aghast at the cost of my A500SS and said he would rather spend £20k on a Ferrari REPLICA! Says it all - we all have different taste and there is no point worrying about what other people think about your taste

I think most people on here who bought an A500 had a short list of just one car, if the A500 didn't exist I just wouldn't have bought any car at all

Don't worry, in no way are you mad! I traded in my nine year old Fiat Seicento for my A500 and it broke my heart. I know my Seicento was by no means special but I had him from new and was so upset the night before collecting my A500.

Rest assured you have definitely done the right thing. After a couple of days of driving my A500, my broken heart was quickly healed and now love my new car to pieces!

Thanks guys!

To be honest, now I have calmed down a bit, I can cope with the cheek of this man; the fact he tried to throw a wet blanket on my excitement; and the fact he dislikes my choice of car. It was just the whole "pink" thing that got to me (which will come as absolutely no surprise to anyone who does know me......)   ;)

He's probably seen the pink 500 billboards and doesn't know the difference between the Fiat and the Abarth

I can’t reassure you as I am in a similar position.  I am trading in my Fiesta ST for the Abarth.  I got offered a brilliant deal on a new MX5.  My head said go with the best deal and get the MX5 but my heart said ABARTH ABARTH ABARTH.  My heart won but did I make the right decision?

Heart ruling head is very Italian. Therefore, I'd say you made the right choice.   ;)

Mind you, I am currently working out whether I can house all the rubbish from our garage elsewhere and squeeze the Honda in to keep her for sunny days....
