New member searching for an A500 Esseesse
« on: August 06, 2011, 03:44:08 PM »
Greetings from Bradford.

My mate's recently got an A500 Esseesse in Funk White and having driven it, I'm seriously impressed and considering getting one for myself. Superb handling, excellent sound and surprisingly quick acceleration all with good economy makes for a tempting package.

I currently drive an Alfa GT JTDm which I love, but as is usual for me, I get irrationally bored of cars at the 1year mark. My job is quite a corporate one, so I wonder what impression it would give to turn up to a meeting in one!! I'm not a snob but have to say I'm a little concerned that coming from the GT which looks very prestigous, to a small pocket rocket might feel a bit odd. My heart tells me to just go for it for the thrill of the drive and forget the status but how long will that last is the question.

So... I'm actively looking for the right A500 SS for around £12,500. Ideally funk white but I do quite like Campovolo grey. So if anyone wants to offload or knows of a good deal then please let me know!! I thought I could get a good example A500 and then buy the Esseesse kit but having read a little further, it seems that it can only be applied to cars under 12months old which is outside of my budget. Is that right?

its difficult to check whether prices are realistic too as there seems to be some discrepency between the ones listed on Autotrader. Any ideas where I can check that as Parkers doesn't list the Abarth?

Attached is my current car if anyone's interested.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi nice car had two Gt's  a jts and a V6 ,six Alfa's in total  ;D

While the Alfa's were great the A500 turns more heads and gets lot of positive comments  :thumb:

Your budget might be a little tight for a good SS so also consider a nearly new standard one and upgrade
the parts as you can TMC box (see commercial section) gives SS power for around £300  :thumb:

There are lots of options on the 500 so my advice is get one with the factory options you really want, leather climate etc...
and worry about adding the performance parts later on  ;)

Good hunting

Second Troopers comments, but I'll add also, you wont get bored of an A500SS, what happens is you just grin more and more. And forget about corporate woes, this is one little mother of a car that everybody looks at. Forget the brain, just do it :thumb: :thumb:

I went from a Gt Blackline to my Abarth 500... The gt was an awesome car! great for the miles but is was lacking in the fun stakes. the abarth is much more me. YOu will be supprised how much more positive the attention is with them than you would expect. You will probably find that you can pull up at a corperate gig in the gt and it not really being noticed but the abarth will create more attention because not many people have seen them and are really interested in them!.... Might help be a great Ice breaker!!

Thanks chaps,

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not fixated on status and prestige but it is a consideration that when I turn up at clients they don't judge me as a 30year old boy racer.

I like that A500's have a kind of 'those who are in the know' thing about them, a drivers car.

You do need a sense of humour though, as some people will try and take the p*ss but in a good hearted sort of way. It's an interesting choice and shows knowledge, taste and a little daring without being threatening. If people take it the wrong way, they're either jealous of you or the car and are best avoided anyways :thumb:

I'm 46 and no boy racer :'(

After about two months of ownership, me and my A500SS have parted company. I have enjoyed the car very much in the short time I've had it, but in the end I found myself hankering after a more comfortable cruiser and opted for a 320d m sport.

Hope the new owner Dario gets lots of enjoyment from it. It looked great on the back of the low loader today, made be question whether I've done the right thing!!

Superb wheels as mentioned above, are they powdercoated black SS wheels?
