Eurotrip
« on: August 22, 2011, 12:11:00 AM »
Hey all, just got home from my Eurotrip today so thought id share it with you all.
I’m posting a link to my photobucket account so you can see the pictures that way as I thought such large quantity of images would be a pain to upload onto the website.

Sat 13th August at 4.30am we left Henley-in-Arden heading towards Dover and the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. Our first stop over was a South German village called Ottobeuren, located 10 km southeast of Memmingen, so as you can imagine it was a long first day’s drive.
Sunday 14th August we left Ottobeuren and headed into Austria and the Alps towards our base camp for two days at Riva del Garda, some absolutely amazing views and lovely towns around here so it is definitely recommended.

Tuesday 16th August we left Riva del Garda and crossed over to Italy’s west coast and stayed in a town called Sestri Lavante near Genoa, a really nice place and away from the touristy places you would usually visit.

Wednesday 17th August we left our base camp in Sestri Lavante and headed south towards Pisa for the day, all in all it was a very nice place to see however it was super busy and very tourist focused.

Thursday 18th August we headed north to a small place called Portofino. Home to the super wealthy and stuffed full of super yachts we felt somewhat inadequate however the town is beautiful and defiantly worth a visit for a couple of hours. After a brief pitstop at Portofino we headed further north towards Lake Como finding a small town on the west side of the Lake for the night.

Friday 19th August we left Lake Como and headed to a place called Chiavenna recommended to us by the lovely lady at the campsite for a spot of lunch and some present buying. If any of you are around this was I would recommend this little place to anyone.

That same day after lunch we headed northeast towards Bormio, which signalled the start of Stelvio Pass. I’m sure many of you know what it is but basically it is very windy strip of road passing through the Alps that climbs to approximately 2750m above sea level. For me this was the absolute highlight of the holiday, im sure the pictures really show why.

From there we carried on to stay at a small village in Austria, I cant really remember the place exactly since it was a bit of a random stop however Austria as a whole is an extremely beautiful place, would really love to go back.

Saturday 20th August we decided to break the back of the home leg crossing back over Germany and into Belgium finally stopping the night at Spa. I did the famous Au Rouge hill on the service road that follows the track which was really good fun especially since the race there is only next week. We also saw the HRT team trucks go past obviously heading to the pits to set up.

Sunday 21st August was our final day and saw us leave Spa at 9.00am and arrive at Calais at around 1.30pm.

All in all we drove around 2800 miles, around 56 hours of driving and averaged about 37.5 mpg, although it was a lot of travelling I had such a good time and would recommend it to anyone. Good mates, good cars, great food, plenty of beer and lovely scenery, what isn’t there to love?
Any questions just ask, ill be more than happy to help if any of you guys are want to plan a roadtrip soon.
Please find the pictures of the trip via the link to my photobucket account below.
