My Grey A500
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:27:58 AM »
Picked up my A500 on Saturday from Autoworld (tracked it in on the Grande Benelux - thanks Delaney). The handover was OK, being longer than some have said on here from them, although I did force the issue by taking a big list of questions with me!

I'm very impressed with the car so far. The main thing that I've noticed is the difference between sport and non-sport modes. The car is really transformed when in sport mode although the non-sport mode is useful for running about town etc. As with most modern cars, its alot different to what I've been used to (15 year old hot hatches up until this!). Visibility is the biggest difference - the 500 has massive pillars and not as much glass as the older cars although the darker tints make night driving alot easier. The suspension is pretty similar to some of the older cars I've owned although a bit softer as the dampers etc aren't shot!

Am taking it relatively easy on the engine for the moment but have already racked up 170 miles this weekend. It certainly feels like it'll go quite well once I open it up but the weather at the moment helps me in keeping it slow (greasy roads etc).

Spent alot of the weekend trying to sort the stereo out (not turning on when starting the car every time and trying to alter the equaliser so that I can actually hear the vocals on old rock cds!).

Options: side stripes/mirrors & bonnet scorpion (not sure about the bonnet one, keep changing my mind about it!)

I think the scorpion looks really good tbh, and I'm not just saying that because I've ordered one

Lose the bonnet scorpion. I'm thinking of removing my side stripes - the stealth look is growing on me.

Looks great.  Pleased you're enjoying it.  Your bonnet scorpion seems to be a bit more towards the centre of the bonnet than others, but it could be just the angle of the picture.  Personally, I like the scorpions (as you will have noticed if you've seen the pics of my car !).

The manual is wrong.  It says press and hold the 'down' button when EQ USER is shown - it's the 'up' button you need to hold.  Then use the left and right buttons to highlight the frequency you want to change, and use the up and down buttons to increase or decrease as desired.

Nice Car  ;D

I like the scorpions even though I've gone for the 'stealth look' myself as I will have to leave it outside clinics in dodgy areas of town.

Thanks for the kind comments. Still getting used to the car, its soooo different from what I'm used to. I've pretty much decided the bonnet scorpion is coming off I'm afraid.

Am still trying to take it easy on the engine a bit - I'll start opening it up after about 500 miles I think. Its caught me out going into Sport mode a couple of times though. Always puts a huge smile on my face!

I chose the 16s not only because I prefer the design but also because of the weight. Years ago, when I got my first car (106 Rallye) it came with 306 alloys on it. When they were replaced with the original steelies the handling improved dramatically. I'm sure in a modern car this won't be as much of an issue but it makes sense to me anyway!

Am now liking the bonnet scorpion again. I guess I'd better wait before making any rash decisions!

Went to Harewood house at the weekend - got a moody shot as we left.
