How is a 0-60mph time obtained?

Am I correct in thinking when a car manufacture performs the test they are not allowed to exceed a certain RPM's limit prior to pulling away.

I hold the rpm's at peak torque and then releasing the clutch and get considerably better results than the published values, but I dont expect to get too many miles out of my clutch Whistle

I timed, and counted down, 3, 2, 1, GO

My Father held the revs at 3500 rpm, With Sport mode and TTC turned on, and when I said GO we shot off.

Just watch the Stig on Top Gear when he does his power laps or look for Rally footage on You Tube, it is common practise. I don’t see why every one on here can not get similar figures.

Muhahahahaha

Are you spelling Mississippi inbetween counting 1,2,3,4 & 5?

Regardless of your dad being a former rally cross driver or not.  A standard (I'm assuming your car hasn't had the same work that LagerLouts has? 220+ BHP) will never hit 0-60 in < 5 seconds unless it's dropping off a cliff.

By all means please prove me wrong by recording it and putting it up on Youtube or somewhere similar.

I suspect your stopwatch needs replacing.
No way would the GPA get under 5 seconds.

Or your speedo is maybe waaaay off.  Best use a datalogger of some kind for accurate readings of stuff like this.
To put in perspective, I used to own a 600kg Kit car with a 1.8zetec putting about 160bhp out (so 260bhp/ton).  It was running a slightly lower ratio diff, to help with acceleration.
The SPA instruments in it had built in 0-60/0-100/qtr-mile capture settings.... and I was lucky if I could crack 4.5secs in that.

Your correct it is a 100% standard A500 SS.

We did it four times as we did not beleve it either, that is why I asked the question in the first place.

Are you sure the wheels weren't just spinning and making it look like you were doing 60? I used to do this with hand brake turns on wet grass, "Look we're doing 60 MPH hand brake turns!"  Roll Eyes

I reckon my 0-60 time is less than 7 seconds after the TMC box, probably closer to 6.5 actually, but mine is a tad "run in" shall we say! My average time when the car was standard was around 7.5 seconds.

Power to weight would give a good ballpark.

Assuming 1.2tonne plus driver and passenger and a perfect traction start, you'd need over 300bhp to get under 5 seconds.

Given the 500A has 135bhp it should be about 7.5 seconds and the SS with 160bhp around 6.5 seconds with a perfect launch.

My track car has over 375bhp per tonne and I struggle to get under 4 seconds (absolutely perfect launch would see 3.4 seconds if I didn't care for the clutch or driveshafts).

Would be very interesting to see datalogger info and video.  I suspect sales of the SS kit would dramatically increase if your data could be verified.   Thumb Up
