Seems to be a good few on this board that follow motorsport.  Thumb Up

So how do you think the "credit crunch" (I hate this term) is going to change the face of competitive m/sport?

It's sad to see the demise of Honda F1 and Subaru WRC, Seat BTCC and Kawasaki in the MotoGP.  I don't really see the attraction of the WRC with just Citroen and Ford - bit too much like the DTM.

I see the WRC is to be S2000 from 2010.  Good or bad?  Why the hell did they drop Monte Carlo from this year's calendar - it's the best start to the year?  The rotation idea is rubbish, IMO.

What do you think of F1 and MotoGP going to BBC?  I think it's good for F1 but a disaster for the MotoGP.  I see the new BBC Sport advert for 09 completely ignores MotoGP.  Are we destined to see MotoGP races relegated to the red button on F1 weekends and no coverage of 125, 250, qualifying and practice?

On a positive note, good to see BTCC will continue on ITV this year.  Shame that Tom-O-C seems without a drive.  I thought he was very entertaining but good on Andrew Jordan getting a Vauxhall drive.

Tom - O - C = Tom Onslow-Cole - yea it would be a shame for him to not have a drive...

staying on the topic of BTCC, good to see a few new teams especialy the new focus ST, but it is VERY sad to see seat go Sad - has there been any news on jason plato and a drive yet? there was rumers a month back about a possiable volvo team with him driving... infact it was even metioned whilst the ROC was on. - i would LOVE that... when i was young i followed volvo - something to do with my dad owning a top of the range 440 Tongue

agree with you fiona its a disaster for the motogp for the same reason as you say but i do feel that F1's home is the BBC, i was getting sick of the ad's.

i dont agree with the WTCC heading the way like the DTM - i mean theres stil lthe independants + look at the BTCC there only 1 manufactor team this year - vauxhall... but the champion ship will still be VERY exciting. it is sad to see the scooby pulled though Sad

back to the BTCC i hope Jordan does a good job at vauxhall - i hate vauxhall in the championship (i was a seat follower Tongue) but he deserves to do well.... although.... does he deserve Tom Onslow-Cole place... thats another debate!

My interest in motorsport is mainly restricted to bikes, I never miss a MotoGP (all classes) but I do keep an eye on F1 (the one that's still half open during a GP).

I understand that 125 and 250 races will be covered (red button) but not qualifying. I've watched the coverage on the BBC before and it's deadly compared to Jules, Toby and Randy. Even the BBC coverage is good compared to European Eurosport. I watched European Eurosport once last year and the MotoGP coverage sounded more like a state funeral.

Isn't Aspar trying the run the Kawasakis? That's the rumour I heard. I hope Gibernau is not still in whinge mode. Are Mansell and him related?

Anyway with any luck Rossi will be back on form this year, Simoncelli in the 250 and Smith in the 125. Mind you I've always enjoyed watching Talmacsi but I think he's too old for 125 this year.

As for rallying, just bring back Group B.

Is anyone interested in historic racing? My boss has now got 2 Lola T70s. I saw them both race in period. One of them was in the first race that I ever saw live. However I'd gone to support the Chaparral team (Phil Hill/Mike Spence) in the 2F. Beautiful car and it won.

Same here mate... watch the MotoGP every time its on or sky+ it if im not about dont miss a race Grin watch the 125/250 if ive got time to kill! always go to old dodington park to spectate, reminder to self - dont take car this year even if it looks like its going to rain! cued for a few hours to get out the car park last year with all the bikes trundling by us  Cry

oh and i see on the news the other day, although you probaly know confirmed that kawasaki wont be competing this year  Thumb Down not that they were any good, but its not the point!

Not such a Rossi fan myself, though he is a legend. Want to see toseland do more this year and dovizioso up there on the podium were he belongs

Glad to see bike fans here.   Wave  Must admit I do like Rossi but also a fan of Hayden, Smith and Simoncelli.  Coverage just won't be the same without Toby and Julian.

We went to Le Mans for the Franch MotoGP a couple of years back. We were camping/touring with our Barchetta.

By the end of the first night the car had turned from yellow to black with all the smuts from the camp fires. No exaggeration! It stank of smoke for weeks afterwards. We had no problem getting out with the car as we left before the MotoGP. My wife actually got hypothermia and was unable to stay awake during the 250 race. Fortunately I recognised the signs. If it had been a F1 race, that would have been nornal. Grin It was May and seriously cold and wet. Apart from that the atmosphere there was amazing, especially with the bikers revving the nuts off their bikes all night. There was one guy with a 'Blade right by our tent. He did nothing for hours but rev the bike, hit the kill switch and grin every time it backfired.

We've got to go to Mugello before Rossi retires.

I don't think that motorsport is in decline, it seems that it could actually be an opportunity for some of the domestic championships to thrive. Alot of teams will be looking to cut costs, and perhaps one of the best ways would be to reduce travel expenses. Why spend thousands to travel half way round the world to compete in a race or rally, when you can compete in your home country for a fraction of the cost yet still receive good press coverage to please the sponsors. So it is possible that in the next few years the numbers of entries to the BTCC, BRC and British Superbikes could increase. There is a case of this already happening with the Dutch Seat team looking to race in the BTCC as it is cheaper, and equally as high profile as the WTCC.

I think that the coverage of F1 on the BBC will be better than it was on ITV. I couldn't believe it the time (2007 I think) when they went to a break and missed the finish. Angry

Rallying is my main interest though, but the WRC has been in decliine for the last couple of years and I missed the coverage last year. I was fed up of paying for SKY when most of it is rubbish, so I cancelled my subscription only to find out that the WRC was only on Dave in 2008.  Cry

I don't think that 2009 will be a good year for the WRC, but it will bounce back eventually. The IRC should be good and the junior / national championships are always interesting.

F1, I completely agree, but MotoGP, 250 and 125 no way. There has been some great racing this season as always. Nascar always good if you can get into it. ALMS is well worth watching.

It's shame Bayliss has retired, great racer.

Have you seen AMA on Motors TV? Good racing and imaginative microphone positioning on track. There was AMA flat track racing on Motors the other day too.

I have been to the last few Rally GB's, and I will only go this year because I believe it will be the last. It needs more competition. Mind you I find the middle to back markers more entertaining than the front runners.

I'm only bothered about wherever I'm racing rather selfishly. Sadly that currently doesn't include an Assetto Corse but we'll have to see what I can do about that!
