High mileage abarths
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:03:00 AM »
Hi all
I'm new to abarth ownership and was wondering what kind of mileage you can expect from an abarth engine, bearing in mind they are ranted on the odd occasion , can I expect 100000 miles out of my car?
Has anyone heard of massive miles on an engine?

So far the engine on the Abarths seem to be the least issue!
Basis of the engine is a million years old and quite proven.

As with all turbo engines the turbo would certainly prefer to be taken care off:
Warm the car up before racing it and give it a bit to cool down before switching it off...

The oldest cars - Grande Puntos - are now nearer 4 than 3 years old, and the earliest 500s will be about to celebrate their third birthday. Some of them belong to Abarthisti, but form what I recall of various posts on here, no-one has yet exceeded 50,000 miles (some are getting very close), so there is no actual real life data to answer your question, but as Corsa says, provided you look after the engine (keep oil in it, for instance), I doubt there should be a major problem. It tends to be ancilliaries that cause more of the grief in just about any car these days.

According to Wessex garage my 500 doesn't require a service for two years or 18000 miles, it seems far too long for a performance engine.

Have a look here for servicing intervals

As Andrew says, look in the service intervals.
Engine oil is more often than the 18k, if you are running more power than the stock power, then reduce the intervals to SS level.

Thank you I'm glad I started this post because I would have taken Wessex garage word as gospel.

I thinik Any engine can do 100k and more on it based on how well its looked after.Look after your car and the car will look after you.

I am likely to knock up quite a few miles in my APE.

I am using mine every day with about 60 mile round trip to work.   I have currently clocked 10,000 miles (8,000 since August) which although I am tempting fate have been trouble free.

I am expecting to keep it for 4 years so I also hope that they will be trouble free miles.

Not the engine I am worried about, the engine is fine.  Clocked up half the 100k you are expecting.  I am more worried about cheap plastic parts and the stones that get thrown at my windscreen every week.
