ARGHHHHHHHH. They are driving me insane, they are wrong, why is there a huge traffic jam on the fast lane with the middle and the left empty and everyone flashing their beams at me when I go at my own pace at 70 mph on the slow lane (eg. the left) and minding my own business. I won't slow down to 60 mph because everyone else needs ho hog the fast lane. What is wrong with the driving tuition in this country? You go right when you overtake, you pull back when you don't. The congestion on the fast lane this is causing is outrageous, especially in the pouring rain or sleet or snow. Would anyone who has an explanation please explain to me, why people don't keep left here if there is aboslutely nobody to overtake anywhere?
Thanks Carol

I have noticed this it is like the left hand lane is diseased
It also happens with roundabouts aswell they go in the left hand lane to go right then they have a go at you when you are in the correct lane.
I just end up using the left hand lane to overtake them now because I dont see why I should move over to the third lane and back or slow down myself and wait for them to move over from the right hand lane to the left lane and most of the time this happens there are no other cars etc about apart from myself and them when it happens.
I just think of people who do that as idiots who shouldn't be allowed to drive well it is not difficult to abide by

The game to play with middle lane morons (mlms) is see how many times you can lap them.
Pass them on the right (lAne 3) then pull right back into the left (lane1) slow down till they pass you and repeat unroll they get the idea and pull over.
My max is 3!

Used to play this game all the time in the Army wagons. Or we had the waving game. (you must at some point of driven past a big green army truck with salad suit ice cubes in the back waving at everyone). See who could get the most excited wave back at you. For some reason it was always best to do to a group of girls around 18-20 ish.

Some people are oblivoius to what is going on around them so they do not know what you are trying to show them. In driving lessons do they teach drivers that cruising in lane 2 is the right thing? Martin

My favourite is on a fairly clear motorway, when there is little traffic and a single car trundling along at 50-60ish in the middle lane with no cars in front of them. I approach them from the slow lane put my indicators on whilst still well back, wait until fairly close (but still leaving a good margin for their error - I mean they are obviously unfit to drive so you don't want to get too close) then make a very obvious overtake by crossing the middle lane to the fast lane. Having overtaken them I then use my indicator again and cross in front of them into the middle and from there back into the slow lane. Then I put the foot down and disappear off into the horizon. Amazingly this almost always results in the moron suddenly noticing the slow lane, or realising that they are allowed to drive on it. I do like the lapping idea, must thoroughly confuse the cretins.

Martin [/quote] Here lies the problem you dont go near a motorway on your lessons/test Bad lane discipline is product of poor driver training and a selfish society, most people refuse to move over simply because they dont know any better or they dont want anyone to get past them

Isn't the outside lane owned by all BMW drivers and all other mortals have to ask permission to use it

You've assumed that we get taught motorway driving! You aren't allowed to drive on the motorway untill you've passed your test, meaning that unless you take "PassPlus" which you dont have to, and many dont, you never learn motorway driving at all. You just have to guess. Also, dont forget, moving into the slow lane would make many people's dicks shrink up and disappear! I would say though ,that the worst for this is middle aged women. I find that flashing my lights tends to move them over, especially at night. Even better whencombined with the change lanes twice, over take, then back to the slow lane and shoot off technique mentioned by IrishPete. It really winds me up though, and it only happens becuase people are usually mindless idiots!

I was quite amused when driving home along the M27 the other night............first info board....you know the big ones spanning the road ....."outside lanes for overtaking only"........couple of miles further " DONT HOG THE MIDDLE LANE". Must admit despite being middle aged woman myself, am with you guys on this.... though i have friends, whose mentality is......"the speed limit on motorway is 70, therefore i should be able to drive in middle lane ay 70 as no one should be going any faster anyway". I have to bite tongue, or if in car being driven as such by aforementioned....cringe down onto foot well in embarrassment.

My exes mum is a middle lane hogger, and is fully aware of the fact. She will get onto the motorway and indicate straight away into the middle lane and then sit there at 60.
She claims that it is to get out of the way of the lorries as they scare her, and she flatly refuses to overtake anyone that she may come across in "her" middle lane. Utter madness !!
She will only move across to the inside lane when she has to exit. I hated being in a car with her.
However, put her on a freeway in the States and she will happily undertake and overtake cars on the left and right with no problems doing 70mph+
