Oh what common sense you all talk! Outside lane, definitely the preserve of the BMW driver; middle lane is the preserve of the Citroen Picassos (driver asleep).

A friend of mine came up with a great solution - a heliopter with a large electro-magnet underneath who can pick these people up and deposit them at sea. I suspect it won't catch on but I see the appeal..... Grin

Or perhaps Abarth can make a full James Bond kit so you can just rocket launch them out the way.....

its simply that people are not m'way driving.
many people wont have hit a dual carriageway until they have passed their test (admittedly there are for more nowadays, so perhaps thats less likely)

in defence of the "middle lane driver" though...
some left hand lanes are awful!!
they get all chewed up by the lorries and tend to be riddled with bumps, holes and sometimes tramlines!!
i try to avoid the lhl as much as possible
....though, i dont often drive slow enough to need it

What is everyone's strategy for idiots who have their fog lights on when you can clearly see cars which are at least half a mile in front?

No motorway in Aberdeen but the A90 is a nightmare. Every day there is a queue of traffic doing 60 in the fast lane with the inside lane totally empty. Some idiots leave 1000000000ft gaps between cars. Why should I wait? If your not going to do at least 70mph, move over

I do get fustrated at lane hoggers too, but for me its more than that, its a general mentality of a lot of drivers.

"A to B" drivers I call them. All they care about is getting where they want to go as safely and efficiently as possible. They get no enjoyment out of driving whatsoever and have no understanding of other road users.

I do try and be patient though, sit back and wait for them to pull in and then just make a point of accelerating rapdily past them and pulling into the 'correct' lane.

I think they are absolutely oblivious to anything around them and that is not safe. You can see they are in a world of their own as there is no head movement to show they are noticing changes around them.

Had something related to this happen earlier they have been doing road works on the motorway so they have a 50mph speed restriction in when I see this I gradually slow to 50mph as obviously got people working so got to be extra careful.

Some idiot decided was going to stay in the right hand lane doing 60mph(ish) as soon as I come out of the speed restriction I accelerate up to speed but obviously this person probably was not paying attention to notice the signs kept doing his 60mph(ish) which he was doing through the 50mph restriction so in other words he is a dangerous driver as was speeding through that restriction where people were doing road works then was not paying attention to road signs or the other cars around him by staying in the right hand lane.

Well I just wanted to get home was not in the mood to wait for him to realise he was in that lane so just passed him in the left hand lane.

If people kept to the rules when driving there would be less accidents keeping to just simple rules like keeping to the left hand lane is a sign that driver is more likely going to keep to other rules of the road aswell and have respect for other road users and safety.

At the end of the day if someone don't know what lane to be in on the motorway and can't stay in the correct lane then they should not be driving we drive on the left in this country and you have a choice of 3 maybe 4 lanes not difficult is it to work out

Friends, I love you all.  You are feeling what I am feeling.  You are seeing what I am seeing.  I am so grateful that it's not just me.  I am a woman, and middle aged at that, but hey, I can see what's causing congestion.  And only using 1 or 2 lanes out of 2 is not helping.  Thank you all very much for your encouraging comments and for sharing your frustrating experiences.

Thanks and lots of love to you all.

I deal with congestion and lane hoggers by ignoring it/them.

The game to play with middle lane morons (mlms) is see how many times you can lap them.

Pass them on the right (lAne 3) then pull right back into the left (lane1) slow down till they pass you and repeat unroll they get the idea and pull over.

My max is 3!
I read this at work the other week and forgot to post when I got home.
Agree with everyones comments, but this one is Genius. Thumb Up Grin May make the difference between me either enjoying the rest of my journey or getting another spate of really bad road rage.

Seriously though, more needs to be done re driver education. Make motorway driving compulsory for the test at least.

I'm in now way a fan of the speed safety cameras. So why don't devise a way of capturing middle lane hoggers average speed camera style. It might, just might, encourage drivers to stick within the speed limits because some prat hasn't increased your journey time ten fold because they didn't know what lane they we're meant to be in (or beacuse you we're lapping them  Grin)

Best thing, try and stay calm. Smiley

Lane hoggers are the scum of the earth. I despatch them by flashing my lights and giving them an appropriate hand gesture. Thumb Up

I've only had two fist fights as well Thumb Up
