Was this a striaght exchange, or did you have to sit a British driving test?

My boss (until last week) was a Bostonian and we were all a little surprised when we found out that she did not drive in the UUK... turned out that as a non EU licence holder who'd been in the UK for several years, she would have had to sit the entire British test and she never bothered, as she rarely left London. She's just got a new job on assignment to Stockholm, so guess she will be using Taxis there, too.  It would frustrate the hell out of me very quickly indeed  if I could not drive somewhere.

If I recall correctly, you can drive in the UK for one year on a US licence and then have to take a FULL test.
