Right, Ford Focus with a Zetec badge. Once slowed down it can't get back up to speed. Bit boring to have it in front. No idea what the engine cc or horse power is. Can someone enlighten me, please? 1368 cc with 155 bhp outrun this Zetec badged focus easily accelerating in 6th gear from 80 up. So I'd like to know why the praised Zetec engine is so much less powerful.

The zetec engine is old technology and has been around for 9 years now. The Focus zetec is designed for old people to drive to Tesco's at 30 mph and annoy all other road users.

Zetec was a name that Ford slapped on their cars once they'd finally plonked a 16v head the engines. They stuck the Zetec badge on the cars to make stupid people believe they were buying a car with similar technology to Honda VTEC engines - i.e. variable valve timing and lift.
Basically it's nothing more than shoddy marketing.
They are reasonable enough engines, but they are for ordinary family cars and aren't performance car engines, hence the reason you were about to outrun the Focus.

I have to admit I got sucked into the marketing then, always thought Zetec and Zetec S meant the motors were a bit sportier - warm hatch territory. Thanks for clearing that up. P.S., Always did like the wee Fiesta Zetec S, too bad they are turning into a total Nova crowd car:

From Wikipedia "The first Zetec-branded engine was the Zeta family, introduced for the 1992 model year powering the fifth generation of the European Ford Escort, the third generation Orion and the Mk.3 Ford Fiesta. The engine was originally available in 1.6 and 1.8 litre versions with a 2.0 litre version appearing in 1993 in the all-new Mondeo. The "Zeta" name was dropped in favour of "Zetec" when Italian car maker Lancia threatened to sue Ford for trademark infringement."
You were right, well done young chap lol.
Great bit of trivia.

It is now just a trim level within the ford range. They are generally a sporty type with lowered suspension and sports seats etc etc....

Ended up buying my current Polo GTI as it was better looking, quicker and better equipped. Still a great car though and a future classic imo

I'm so happy with it. A fantastic drive and the brakes are something else. It's one of the best cornering cars I have ever driven. I might take it to a northern meet sometime (if I'm allowed!!!) Would enjoy a drive out with the Abarths.
