Last time I checked the outside lane wan't called the 'fast lane' is it not just a lane like any other, but there for overtaking?
In the pouring rain, even 60 can be too fast. Adapt your driving to the situation. Heavy rain = slow down and back off in my book. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Rain means nothing. It's weather. All you need to do is keep a distance. 60 is not too fast in the rain, in fact it is too slow, if you know your car, your brakes and your ABS. And if you pay attention to what is going on half a mile in front of you. If 60 is too fast for you, keep off the overtaking lane and let me go.

Sorry, let me finish this: I don'r aquaplane because I have the room to brake or to escape. I always have an escape route. 10 years of long distance commuting taught me. And keeping left. So the hard shoulder is there for me if I need it. And I do look ahead. Brake lights a half a mile ahead trigger an automatic warning. I just resent all those people who drive right without due care and attention, when they have neither need to, nor do they overtake anyone.

Road rage. No, not all road rage, but simlpy bad driving. Left is the key. What a beautiful sight is a motorway empty on the middle and fast lane because everyone is doing what they need to do. Sigh. Meaning keeping left when there is nobody to overtake.

I had to go to Bracknell from MK yesterday in the rain, and got a small chip in my Windscreen for my troubles. Needless to say some people seem to drive safely in the rain, others do 40mph or less on the Motorway, and some drive like complete planks Im just glad i don't do huge rush hour mileage any more.

I don'r aquaplane because I have the room to brake or to escape. I always have an escape route. What's that got to do with aquaplaning? If you are truely aquaplaning then you are nothing more than a passenger. You hit enough standing water at high enough speed, you overwhelm your tyres ability to disperse water through the width & depth of their tread. Result is your tyres no longer have contact with the road.... so no steering or braking input is going to help you until either the standing water reduces, or your speed reduces naturally causing the flow of water to ease. In the meantime, you just hope you don't swap ends or veer off. There's no skill involved.
