A500 Electrics
« on: October 20, 2010, 09:35:30 pm »
Does anyone know if the A500 electrical system is based on Canbus?  Also does anyone know if there is a pdf wiring diagram anywhere.  I am after a permanent 12v inside the car to power an in car event recorder.  I currently have it wired to the 12v feed of the courtesy light but the perm 12v seems to power down after approx half an hour.  I assume it does this to stop anything draining the battery.  I dont really want to run a wire all the way to the +ve of the battery.  I could take it from the internal fusebox but not sure if the feed to that also powers down after half an hour

Cheers for any info

electrical wiring and canbus are two things?  ???

Yes it has a canbus, but you want a +12v which would be nothing to do with that.

I would not try to power anything of the interior light, its connected to the body computer and designed to only run a bulb, you will probably break something! (incidentally, this is why it goes off after 30 minutes.

All Fiat's (sorry, sorry, Abarth's) are online workshop manuals these days I believe, so you would need to pay somewhere to access it (it has to be available under the block exemption laws). Not found any PDF versions!

Just man up and run a fused feed from the battery, or if its only in use while your driving the car fit a cigarette lighter plug to the thing, at least that way you are using a properly fused circuit  :thumb:

Ah cheers.  I thought the system may have seen the slight drain from the event recorder (it's actually drawing less current than the bulb when it's on).  I may just run a feed with an inline fuse holder from the battery again.  Thanks again
