Abarth 595 Seat Swap: 2016 to 2020
« on: January 13, 2021, 04:31:00 am »
Hi guys,

Strange question, but looking for help..
I have a 2016 Abarth Competizione with the Sabelt bucket seats. This 2016 model only has 9,000kms on it so the seats are still in brand new condition.

I've come across a great deal on a 2020 Competizione that I'd like to buy, but the only drawback is that it has the stock leather seat package (which I hate). The seats are all puffy and pleathery...
So was thinking I could probably just put the Sabelt seats from the 2016 in to the 2020, and the leather seats from the 2020 in to the 2016, and then sell it with the new leather seats!
Yes, I'm crazy.

The question is, does anyone know if the under seat wiring and connectors for are the same from the 2016 to the 2020? Hoping for plug n' play here.

I'm also not sure if the stock 595 leather seats from the 2020 model have got airbags in them? (brochure says there are 7 airbags in the vehicle, so think the side ones are in the pillars). Obviously the 2016 Sabelt seats don't have any airbags in them.

Would love to know your thoughts!

If it all gets too hard, I just won't do it.
Thanks for your help and time!

The standard and leather seats have airbags in them and as you say, the Sabelts don't.

I don't know if its a plug and play job, it depends if there is an error if the system detects that there are no seat airbags, it could be that there is no error message.

Hopefully someone who knows for sure will reply soon

    Thanks for the reply Richard,

From the poking around I've done in the 2016 model, and the new 2020 at the showroom: seems like the 2020 leather seats are plugged in to an orange plug (which i suspect is the wiring for the airbags) and I think I saw a spare grey plug, and the 2016 Sabelts are plugged in via a grey plug and the orange just sits there vacant..

Hoping that it will be a simple plug in, but can definitely imagine there might be some airbag errors on the 2020 as it won't be able to find the 2x seat airbags. Will find out on Feb 1st when we pick up the new one and attempt the swap!

I'm hoping that worst case, my local Abarth mechanic could clear the errors if any and that doesn't affect the warranty.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone else who might have some knowledge on this topic.

    Hi,

Can’t say for certain but I believe they will be plug and play, although you may need Multiecuscan to do a proxi alignment. From memory I think in one of the body computers you have the option to enable or disable seat airbags  :thumb:

    Thanks Matt, appreciate the response!

No worries, I thought that might be something that needs to be done - will have chat to the Abarth repair shop I'm having the 2016 serviced at pre-sale and see if they can help me out with that after I've attempted the swap...

    Fingers crossed :)
