"Big" Engine Upgrade (about 300HP)
« on: December 09, 2014, 11:34:39 am »
In our abarth spanish forum, we are discussing about that topic. We are talking about a abarh unit powered up to 300HP and his owner is selling it now for 61000£. The main question if that unit and his upgrade are worth the effort (£££). A big upgrade like that, does it cost 61000£?? Do you know some tuner that ups your Abarth to 300HP? For example, TMC Motorsport just to 250HP (http://www.google.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=2887). We need exact information to compare,

Thats a lot of money for what is still just a basic A500.... not worth it for what it cost, can go buy a alfa 4c for that sort of money...

My opinion is the same that yours. The question is for knowing if some tuner offers a similar upgrade kit to see the cost (approximately)

The question is, why do you spend 61K to make an A500 a bit quicker? Shave 1 second off 0-60? WOW SUCH IMPRESSIVE.

I'd rather keep the A500 standard and then get an ariel atom if it's acceleration and crap like that you want.

Or a GTR. Or even an R1 mini cooper pushing 4 secs 0-60, much more fun, for 12k.

MTech Engineering (if you can find them) apparently do 300bhp, but change the engine to a 2L turbo

It is easy to get 300bhp out the engine

    The cost

    1400 for gt25 turbo

400 for bits and bobs like oil pipes and water pipes to the turbo

    1500 for rods and pistons

    600 for cam

Then thears labor to put it together

400 for remap on standard ecu

You can try the standard clutch and flywheel but I knacked them at 200hp 242ftlb

Standard gearbox let go at 250 hp and 240ftlb

Drive shafts want last much after that

Now mine is at 395hp and 350ftlb

Basically my car is now on all asetto corse running gear

Gearbox ,engine mounts, drive shafts  flywheel

    With a ap clutch.

I think I might be at the max the turbo I have now at 1.6 bar so I might be going to Change it and go for 450

Plus labour costs, right? But how have you upgraded from 250 to 395? Just with parts of Asetto? The turbo for example follow being GT25?

256hp and 242 ftlb is on standard internals  with just  bigger turbo and injectors and boost sensor

    I have a gt2860rs

I used the gt25 in my last post as what to use if you only want 300hp

From 250 to 400 it was

Pistons and rods  custom cam. And head porting  bigger injectors again  bigger turbo again  and a feu different sensors

That's it  I am thinking about going to a gtx2867r as I think I have maxed the gt2860rs

The only reason I went to the assets corse stuff is I mullerd the 5 speed so went to a 6 speed

To go to 6 speed the engine has to move 40mm to the left  witch ment I needed the ac engine mounts

The lag is not as bad as it lookes I get full boost on the road at 4200 rpm

Bigger turbo might hold the 350 for later

If I can get 350ftlb at 7000 it works out at 490ish hp   But I am not holding my breath on that one
