Exhaust Valve Bypass

Dear all,

I have a 2019 Abarth competitizione, I've read that they changed the valve opening system on the 2019 model and onwards. When in sport mode the valves open around 3000 rpm in 2nd gear and around 2800 rpm in 3rd gear. Does anyone have a solution that could make the valve open before a certain amount of rpm with the new exhaust system?

    Welcome to the forum Jeremy :thumb:

    Which ever Monza silencer you have, pre 2019 with angled cut tips and spring controlled flap or post 2019 with straight cut tips and ECU controlled flap, you can keep the flap open permanently with a length of wire.

    To adjust the earlier spring controlled flap to open sooner, fit a weaker spring.

    The Ecu will have to be reprogrammed for the later version although pressing the 'sport' button opens the valve manually.

    Hello Thanks for the welcoming :)

    Indeed I have the straight cut tips and ecu controlled flap. So if I understood correctly the only way to keep the flap open permanently would be to reprogram the ecu? Or is there another alternative?

    I just tried wiring it open with zip ties however the valve is just jumping around inside the pipe so I had to take it off :(

    You can unplug the vacuum valve under the bonnet and it achieves the same result.

    The valve is attached to the firewall, at the back of the engine bay, top right of the red airfilter box if you are looking at the car from the front.
    Spring clip, push in and pull electrical connector.

    I've got a brand new spare Ecu controlled Monza and the valve appears to open in the rest position.

    So either just remove the flexible connection to the Monza or as Badcav203 suggests above. :thumb:

    Great tip.

    A problem might be that the  missus drives the car (only in Normal mode) and won't want that ear bashing.
    I assume it permanently opens the valve in normal and sport?

    Just tried it.
    Yeah, of course... it is open whatever mode you are in.

    I might have to put it back - it didnt make a huge difference.
    Well... what I really wanted was more of  that lovely bark you get in 2nd 3rd and 4th when you hit that 3k/4k area. It never lasts as along as I want it  to!!

    Still, great sounding car. I had a modified RS3 beforehand. it is not quite that amazing but bloody good for half the price and a 1.4 litre!

    I read on a German forum that it is speed dependent. It is open at idle, closed between 5km/h and about 58km/h, or about 35/36mph. That would make sense with it opening at lower rev in higher gear.

    Hahaha. I can’t leave it disconnected, find it a little loud on the the way to work every morning
