Fitting H&R Springs soon, thoughts?
« on: July 08, 2014, 05:34:59 am »
Hello all,

I wanted a spring that provided me a slightly lower height with a firmer and more controlled ride. So, I opted for the sport springs from H&R along with poly rear bump stops (relatively cheap and solid upgrade). I was wondering who has had experience with H&R product on their car in Europe? Any opinions are welcome, and I will be sharing a full review once installed!

We have H&R springs with Fiat Coupe rear bump stops on my girlfriends Abarth 500. I think they perform great.

No harsher than standard and take away the edge off that awful rear arch gap! Handles very nice!

The rear bump stops don't really do anything when theres only 1-2 of you in the car but if you ever have rear passengers they are 100x better than the standard set up!

Everything is fitted.  Pics to come.  I like how the car still has a OEM appearance, with just a bit lower stance.  Looks very proper.

Excellent way of describing them! I think they are fantastic!

The rear will settle a little on your picture there aswell. Looks great!

Lowered the rear by about an inch and the front only about 1/2. I checked it out and I don't know how this got passed the guy putting them on, but these springs are the part number for the regular 500, not the Abarth. The ride is fair, but definitely bouncy, which I am sure is attributed to a softer spring rate. Instead of risking damage, I am contacting my vendor tomorrow to see if they will make this right... Really didn't want to have to pay for another install...

Ummmmm you may find that aftermarket springs are the same for both the 500 and A500 ..... at least that is true for the Euro models

I saw that was true in Europe, but stateside H&R has two different part numbers and before I drive it too far, I want to make sure that I have the right springs for sure.  When I had my M3, you could fit standard 325is springs from H&R, but it would overdrive the shocks due to the softer than OEM spring rate vs. OEM M3 springs. The M3 springs were tuned specifically for the car. Not saying that this is the same, but if it is, then I would want to make sure I have the right parts in play.

Otherwise, the drop is spot on!

Confirmed, springs are the right model.  The fronts change between applications due to FSD up front in American car.  Time to go for a run :)

So, drove down one of my fun backroad routes this evening to pick up the wife from work, good god that is fun! These springs are really making this car a pure joy to drive. Nearly would hang with my WRX, which is saying a lot!! Thanks H&R for offering these up.
