i could do the cams  soon  with the over time i am working but i will be cheaper to only take the engine to bits once  and do the rods and the pistons at the same time  :thumb:

and it is going to have to be run in  that going to be hell for me when the time comes

right dan you have now got 300 hp  bit only use 1/4 throttle for 1000 miles to bed it in
but i think it will be worth it at the end of it

i need to do the brakes first witch is why i am going for brembos under some pro race 3 wheels next

after the exhaust get changed

the list goes on

i have been looking at boring it out to 1.6 but i dont think the extra work involved will be worth it

and it will make it easier to blow a head gasket and make the cylinder walls thicker so

as the car is my daily driver  i need it off the road as little time as posable

so the list of things to do is as follows

    mm cat back exhaust

    abarth brembo brakes

17inch  team dynamic pro race 3 wheels in black

    forged piston and rods

    fast road cams

after that i think it will be a well sorted hot hatch   :thumb:  i just hope i can do it by the end of the year  will just have to see

what price have you been looking at to get it bored out to 1.6? including work?
I've been quted just over £1k for the forged pistons and heads polished if i remember correctly

where are you getting the pistons/rods/cams - you wont bore in out to 1.6 l - the cylinders will collapse into each other - 1.5 l is really the limit - lagerlout has a picture on his thread of what the walls will look like with this done - he hasnt encountered any difficulty and his car has been a track slag so i think its safe to say its reliably - but as you say its whether its worth it - for me it would be knowing that its the best it can be but others have different priorities - bets of luck with it Dan and to you Jaya - i look forward with great interest t see these builds progressing -

    sorry i meant 1.5

but to change the pistons for forged ones  and the rods i dont think the engine has to be taken out  but i could be wrong

if i had it bored it would have to be taken out and totaly striped into a bear block witch will cost alot more  than just changing the pistons and the rods

i just cant see the gains being worth it to bore it out

to totally satisfy yourself you could get a quote from somewhere - i dont know who would do the work though- lagerlout has been using a touring car firm - but yes i agree with you Dan that it could be quite a lot of extra money and faff for not huge gains - assuming its not silly money, for me it would be worth it knowing that it was as good as it really good be - but yes from any sort of value for money argument its hard to justify - if youre happy with the off boost performance and turbo threshold as it is now then thats fine

are TMC supplying the pistons/rods - have the cams you want to be using been tested, is there any info on them - 'turbo' cams in the past have been slightly iffy affairs - i know G -tech sell cams

i am sure that lagerlout blow his head gasket

yes the piston rods and cams are the ones that tmc have on thear web site

daron reckons they will help spool the turbo sooner and hold the power longer

i am happy with the off boost power

at motor way speeds i can just put my foot down and not have to change gear and the boost is thear so lag is not a problem

Interesting conversation guys. I am just building an engine for my 500 AC that I am converting to be a rally car.
As I am forced to run a 29mm restrictor and cannot port the head, I have to run as high compression as I can and flow as much air as possible, up to say 5000 rpm when the restrictor really begins to limit the air flow and boost.
I have CPS forged pistons with 10.5 compression and am starting with the Garret GT1446, although I have a GT2056 and a GT25 to try (but expect them to compromise the low speed torque too much). The twin intercoolers are being changed for a front mount, and the 500AC injectors are already larger than stock (I believe). Target is 230hp and 350Nm, but I am not sure if the restrictor will allow the airflow ...
Anyway, a lot of sense being spoken by Dan and Griffs. I wanted to know if you are running the Motec M400 and if it can still run the speedo, gauges etc. Also does anyone do uprated head bolts and head gasket ? I will be using race fuel so a lot of boost anf ignition around peak torque !

I got G Tech Cams/Piston/ConRod. They said the cams will work with the standard valve and springs but I am not going to risk it.

whats wrong with the standard valves and springs

its not like you are going to rev it hard enough to cause valve float

i don't no if any after market valves or springs but i have not had a good look i think it would be a custom job

is it to much to ask to have a 1.4 turbo with the power of a 2.5 turbo

thear is only two ways to make a engine more powerful
1 make the bang on the top of the piston bigger
    2 make it rev harder

so thats what the forged pistons and rods are for  so the bang at the to of the piston bigger

and the cams do two things it can let the engine rev hight and make the bang bigger  at a higher rpm :thumb:
