Koni FSD dampers for Abarth 500 available from Abarthisti

Koni FSD ("Frequency Selective Damping") dampers are specifically designed to combine the ultimate in comfort and road-holding.

FSD technology uses a revolutionary new technique to combine the benefits of firm and comfortable suspension in a single perfect shock absorber: firm for sporty driving on even road surfaces, comfortable for a smooth ride on uneven road surfaces.

This new feature is an integrated part of the hydraulic valving system inside the damper. Consequently, there are no additional cables, sensors, or any other electronic devices needed to operate this system.

How does it work?

The split between comfort and handling can be defined in two frequency areas:

For comfort, with the suspension moving in a high frequency area (± 10 Hz), asking for low damping forces.
For handling, with the suspension moving in a low frequency area (± 1 Hz), asking for high damping forces.

By changing the damping force level in relation to the frequency of the movement, it is possible to resolve the conflict in terms of comfort and handling ever present in conventional dampers.

In standard shock absorbers, the main damping characteristic is defined by the oil flow going through the piston assembly.  Combining it with the FSD technology, Koni added a special valve, which controls an oil flow parallel to the one going through the piston rod.  This parallel oil flow is closed by the FSD technology, giving a rise in damping force almost linear to the time that the piston is moving in one direction.  Put simply: the FSD system is a hydraulic amplifier that delays the build up of pressure.

The Koni FSD dampers are now included in the esseesse kits for the Abarth 500C and Abarth Punto Evo.

Available now from the Abarthisti Shop

Abarthisti members wishing to buy the dampers separately can now buy them from Abarthisti, and we've secured a number of these kits at a special price.

A full set of four dampers for the Abarth 500 normally retails at £572 + VAT = £686.  However, we've negotiated a special deal that allows us to offer the kit for just £560 inc. VAT – a saving of over £120!

How to order

1.   Visit Koni FSD at Abarthisti.
2.   Enter the quantity required (one kit = four dampers).
3.   Complete the form at the bottom of the page – please include all details.
4.   You will be contacted once stock arrives to arrange payment.

We currently have a number of kits in stock, but they tend to go quite quickly.  Get your order in now!

Note: As with all items in the shop, VAT is included, but P&P will be added during payment.

The springs will be a personal matter depending on how firm you like the ride.
The warranty shouldn't be affected at all as its an Abarth approved part.

They dont lower the car and they should work with either set of springs

One more question whilst we're on the topic, does the new SS kit with these shocks have the springs changed too like the old SS kit? Or are the standard springs used on the new SS kit?

    Very important (to me)...

These are what I've been waiting for (IF):

Are these the official Abarth approved Koni FSD's, developed in conjunction with Abarth?

Are they tried and tested to give better / faster performance - don't need comfort!

I neeeeeed to lower the ride hight of my (standard - not esseesse) car. What are the OPTIMUM springs to fit - Eichbach or something????? would like as much height knocked off as possible!

Help - I can strip a printing press down and rebuild it - a car, I need help with!
    A500 + TMC + BMC + Yellowstuff + Motul RBF600 + KW V1 + OMP & Strut Braces - rear seats = esseesse+, + Change.

At the moment, you'd have to source the springs separately - try your dealer or eBay.  If everyone wants esseesse springs, I can see if we can put something together.

Are these the official Abarth approved Koni FSD's

These are the only FSD dampers Koni list for the Abarth 500, so yes.

They've been designed to work primarily with the OEM springs.

BH-Reading will be the first to have them fitted that I know of.

FSD's are not intended for use with aftermarket lowering springs as they are calibrated to work with standard / SS springs and need travel to work. If you want to Lower then there is a set of Bilstein coilovers with springs and adjustable ride height available for £630.

Do you know who supplies the SS springs aftermarket, or would my local Abath dealer be able to supply the SS springs over the counter. Even though I have not purchased the SS kit from them in the first place, hope this makes sence.   :)

As a few people have asked, the Abarth 500 esseesse springs are now available to buy from the Shop at the reduced price of £275 inc. VAT (normally £350).

These are supplied brand new from Turin, rather than nicked out of someone's kit, so there may be a short delay while they come in.

To add: the esseesse springs provide roughly a 10mm drop over the standard car.
