If you have nothing controlling the wastegate and it can't open to drain off excess boost the turbo will boost to its full capacity, I don't know what that is but my guess is it would go over 2 bar unless the ECU cuts the engine into limp mode which is what should happen.

Barry this is not controlled boost pressure we are talking about, its uncontrolled boost pressure. Very dangerous if the ECU doesn't put the engine into limp mode.
The ECU is programmed to limit boost to, I think 1.2 bar. That is what I meant; the ecu can be reprogrammed to boost higher.

What concerned me is that his was boosting of the scale of the boost guage and the ECU wasn't putting the car into limp mode. Thats worrying.

i've had the same problem on my integrale, the hose that gave the ecu the boost data came lose. so the ecu "thought" there was no pressure and didn't op the wastgate...  put in 5th and limped to the next exit, and have it towed home.

a friend of mine mixed up the hose to the ecu and the hose to the wastgate,  no boost on the scale..but.. 2 incredible minutes feeling like Markku Alen  and being able to take on a fighter jet.. 2 weeks of engine rebuilding.. 2 years of bad blowjob jokes..

if the boostlevel is 1.4 or higher, drop the revs to max 2500 rpm and limp to the next safe spot. let it run iddle with the hood up so it can shake off some heat, turn it off and have it picked up by the dealer.

i'm sorry to say but damage has been done, every component has been stressed way beyond there designed level. and one day ( guess on a cold sunday morning in the rain in the middle of nowhere) something is going to snap.. could be tomorow, next week, next year.

make sure you get in black and white that the dealer screwed up and that they are laible for all damage's that can be related to this boost issue, now and in the future..

Great :thumbd: Not good for the engine at all.  It was only boosting at that level for about 4 seconds until I realised but as you say it's beyond any levels the components were designed to cope with.
    I feel like crying...... :'(

OK,have decided on a plan of action on this matter,I have composed a letter to ABARTH UK,outlining my thoughts and the facts of the case and how did a dealership allow a car to leave its workshop in such a condition  ::) etc etc,we will await the result
