;D And he'd be very impressed with its sudden gain in power.
Got to be pumping out at least 190 hp with its knackered turbo :thumb:

You can only get 1.6 bar if you remap the ecu! I had mine done as part of the tuning process, and turbo work.

We could only go off the gauge reading, and as the turbo was boosting virtually unrestrained we showed obvious concern,we did NOT post to make wild unsubstantiated claims,as to look how clever we are etc etc,the post was a legitimate request for info from like minded enthusiasts, and if we do believe the manufacturers gauge, you dont need the ecu to make 1.6 bar,yes the ecu will give you safe boost to that level, but the turbo seems to get there quite well of its own (unchecked) accord.  ;D

If you have nothing controlling the wastegate and it can't open to drain off excess boost the turbo will boost to its full capacity, I don't know what that is but my guess is it would go over 2 bar unless the ECU cuts the engine into limp mode which is what should happen.

Barry this is not controlled boost pressure we are talking about, its uncontrolled boost pressure. Very dangerous if the ECU doesn't put the engine into limp mode.

Isn't a dodgy wastegate spring a cheap but asking-for-trouble mod for extra power?

Very strange that the car did not go into limp home mode. I had the connector off my boost control solenoid once and it just put the car into a reduced power mode, no eml but the car simply wouldn't allow it to boost.

Yeah my dad, (who is a member of this site with an agp) was thinking that too.
It seems strange that the car couldnt regulate its boost but could vent some excess gas somehow and wouldnt go into limp mode with the amount of boost it had.

There must have been some serious heat being generated aswell, lucky its not caused any damage. The computer should have picked up that the car was overboosting or as seems the parameter was not exceeded, maybe a faulty write of the ecu but though't we'd have heard about some cheap and easy tuning by hose replacement lol.
