175 bhp 1.4 MultiAir 500 Abarth
« on: May 12, 2011, 06:33:24 pm »
Excuse the online translation but this seems to be the latest info on the US market A500. Perhaps we will get the same engine come the facelift?

"The Abarth 500 will be reviewed, as was the Fiat 500 during its passage across the Atlantic for the transition to standards.
The main constraint to respect is that the more severe rear crash test in the USA. This will result in the use of a specific rear, currently used on the 500 NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement).
The amounts of the windshield will also be modified to meet the standards of frontal crash test.

The performance will also be revised upwards from its European cousin. The 500 Abarth will indeed be equipped American bloc 1.4 MultiAir developing a maximum output of 175 bhp and 230 nm of torque (15CH is more than the 500 Abarth esseesse European).

Other differences are mainly located at the cockpit, or access to the rear seats will be optimized, the addition of steering wheel to use the cruise control function (speed)."

I remember ages ago there was something about the American market only having SS versions, could be that when/if it finally comes out in the UK the MA 500 SS will be 175bhp or could be that will just be the American market as they won't be getting the Evo.

Domestic and non-domestic models are a strange only thing, the Yanks have all kinds of funny motors that havent been avaliable in the UK and europe even tho they maybe a european manufactor. Ofcourse the multi-air in the 500 would be the next step forward, it was for the Punto but we're wait and see

I remember reading this a while back. It was also rumoured that the Abarth 500 was going to be marketed as an Alfa as well but that hasn't come to fruition.

Is there a facelift due for the UK soon? I hope not as I wouldn't change anything about the current design (except maybe the gear box.)

    Rumours of the facelift...

    http://www.caradvice.com.au/82670/fiat-500-facelift-could-get-all-wheel-drive-and-lpg/

All speculation although there have been reports of test cars seen in Poland.
