500 Due date
« on: November 26, 2008, 05:38:47 pm »
Things seem to be slipping yet again  :'(

Abarth today told me that the first 200 identical spec cars would be delivered "sometime" in March with the full launch of the regular customer spec cars sometime in April.

So if this is the case whats the point of going for the identical spec model if its not arriving that much earlier?! unless its the exact spec you want might as well wait a month later for the spec you want.

10 month wait if this turns out to be fact!

I suppose the £500 would'nt of gained much interest for me.

I was told today by the Dealer Principal at Research in Nuneaton that despite having paid my deposit in July - making me #53 in the official online order book - that it only really counted if I was going to have one of the original white 200 cars.
This was not mentioned on the website at the time or even now.

I must point out at this stage that this is not a swipe at Research who appear to be as tied with this as the customers. All they told me was what Abarth have told them earlier this week.

Furthermore, I was told if I was lucky I might get black leather as it would appear we're only getting cloth or red leather to start and if I really wanted a factory order (i.e not a white one) with esseesse kit, I'd best be prepared to wait until June.
The fact that I may now have to take my chances along with those who have placed a deposit since TG 3 weeks ago rankles a bit I must say.
Up until now, I'd been very patient regarding Abarth's baby but if this is how they are going to treat customers who have shown good faith by placing orders so far in advance, I'm really not impressed.
    Not impressed at all.  >:( >:( >:(

I feel for you Chumley. It was bad enough when I had to wait 10 weeks for my GPA, as I wanted it in red, with leather, skydome and climate.

I think that Abarth will probably loose some of the "enthusiast" customer base with all this waiting, as some people have known about the cars for a long time and guys like yourself could end up waiting a year for the spec that they want. Renaultsport, or someone else with a good product that is already here might pick up the pieces. ::)

They will probably get rid of the first 200 cars easily enough, (John might be able to tell us what the current uptake is). One way they could of ensured that the most of the first 200 people that put down a deposit actually wanted one and didn't feel a little cheated when they confirmed the cars would all be the same spec, was if they called it the UK opening edition, gave it a serial plate and chucked in some other freebies like a nice leather binder for keeping receipts, etc in and an individual brochure pack on it. Just my thoughts anyway.
GPA in velocity red with leather, climate & skydome.

Have to agree with the comments above, I've kinda said what I think in other threads about my disappointment about the fixed spec.

Also taken from the 500 Abarth deposit site in the FAQ section:

"As with any car purchase, you will be able to choose the colour, trim, options, etc., at your local Abarth dealer when you place your formal order."

    Bit misleading isn't this?

I can understand where you guys are coming from, but the above comment still stands. No one is forcing anybody to take one of the first 200 and you can still spec your own car. Delivery times on the self specced cars is just pure speculation at the moment, before you get upset I think we should just wait for the official ordering to open(hopefully very soon) and we will be able to tell you exactly when you will get your car.
As I said in another thread, from the dealer ordering your car to delivery should take 12-14 weeks.

    John,
I appreciate your comments. I suppose the reason why I was upset was because I'm only reporting what research told me.
They could neither tell me when the order book would open nor where my order would be in the overall scheme of things and I suppose that is what really grated, because I specifically asked if any of the first 200 people to order who didn't wish to take the white cars would be first on the order list and was told no.

I can understand what you are saying, Research are only telling you the correct information available at the time. As i have said in another thread, It is possible for a dealer to e-mail logistics and prioritise a vehicle for a customer. I would expect a dealer to prioritse a car for an early adopter over a customer that turned up after ordering has opened.

Thanks for the comments again. I realise I was painting a fairly dreary picture and of course you are right, I need to see what happens when the order books open. Fingers crossed that Abarth can help ease our concerns.  :)
