-9 deg c things are starting to break
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:43:20 pm »
This morning whilst warming up the car @ -9 deg c on a short test drive.

The car started blowing Baltic cold air into the footwell, it made my feet go numb. The top vents were still warm.

It appears as if it had spit a 6" by 1" bit of plastic out from the centre console behind the pedal box.

I guess the main air intake pre heater matrix is here, the air was freezing & bellowing out. I managed to gaffer tape the part back into place to make the car drivable without suffering frost bite.

New part ordered £11.65 , it a 100 mile round trip for a warranty claim

Hope nothing else fails, the radio LCD display is getting slow to respond as the temp drops

-9 here right now and the house is breaking. pipes frozen. no hot water, only one cold tap. the digibox has freaked out and the overflow is leaking.

got a hair dryer under the sink and the oven on full with the door open, hoping i can thaw things out

oh.. and the car is well frozen :thumbd:

This weather has kind of stopped being funny, hasn't it?   And we are supposed to be getting another month of it.

I have covered our gas fire vent up to stop the cold air coming in through it. I have wrapped the outside tap. It's getting colder.

It's a bit like the film the day after tomorrow & that looked cold

Just as long as your gas erg does not have any moisture in, you should be ok

    The fire offer still stands

That is really dangerous.   You need the vent to allow the poisonous gases to escape.   That's how people die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

    Please open it up again.

I have also stuffed the front vents of the fire with plastic bags to stop the cold blowing through.

I do not use the fire at all since I covered it up.  thanks for your concern . At least people are looking out for you.
