Abarth 500 gearbox
« on: October 13, 2021, 09:35:41 am »
Hi,
This may be a dumb question but I’m just trying to weigh up my options. I own a 2012 Abarth 500c with the automatic/dualogic transmission, my mechanic just informed me that I require a new gearbox. The only problem is that I’m from Australia (I know this a UK forum) so sourcing a used gearbox is proving difficult and I would prefer to not have to buy a new one from Fiat as they are very expensive over here.
My question is, are there any alternative gearboxes that I could source that would do the same thing (e.g a standard fiat 500 gearbox)?
Thanks

Hi Rivill and welcome to Abarthisti

Has the gearbox actually failed mechanically or does the Dualogic/MTA actuator cause the problem?

    Hi,
The gearbox has mechanically failed from what my mechanic has told me. So I require a new gearbox

AFAIK. the internals are the same as is the clutch on the manual A500 gearbox.

So maybe a used A500 manual gearbox can be stripped for parts?

That could be a good alternative if I’m unable to locate an A500 auto gearbox.
Is there much difference between a Fiat 500 1.4 sport (dualogic) gearbox and an A500 dualogic gearbox?
If I’m unable to locate either A500 gearbox in Australia as they (A500’s) are a very uncommon car here

Sorry to say I don't know

The engine block is much the same between the 1.4 sport and the A500.

So I would think the gearbox casing would be the same as to the innards

Maybe the same but I would assume the final drive ratio is different.

Worth a look I would think :thumb:
