Boot Catch not working but key fob release does.
« on: November 13, 2013, 04:31:04 pm »
Hi All

My mother-in-laws Fiat 500 has a problem with the boot catch not working, the key fob releases the boot so I know the electrics are OK.  I assume it's the micro switch in the button.  Has anyone else got any experience with this issue and possibly a how to guide so I can fix it for her?

Thanks

Darren

Could be a faulty micro switch for this you will need a complete boot handle or could be damaged wiring loom this may help https://www.abarthforum.co.uk/500-abarth/boot-lid-wiring/

Definitely the wiring loom going into the boot. Hope you have warranty as otherwise it's a patch up job by yourself or an expensive replacement of the rear loom courtesy of Abarth.

If you are talking using the boot catch manually I had the same problem with my daughters 500 a few squirts of wd40 and squeezing the plastic together released the spring now works fine

I found on mine that the bulb light came on the dash (number plate bulb)

messing with the bulb and getting it to work again sorted my problems out, so its a contact issue for me as the bulbs were fine.

    might help

I had this problem, found that the wiring had been damaged between the boot lid and the bodywork (black wire severed). There was enough visible on both sides of the break, that I could strip back the insulation and solder another piece of wire across the gap.  Wrapped loads of insulation tape to protect this and the other wires and it's now working fine - took about 10 minutes and I'm not skilled!
