Can anyone beat this service quote?
« on: January 16, 2020, 03:30:48 pm »
Apologies, I've not been around for a while, but my missus has just sent me a message to say the dealer has quoted her £900 for a service - I haven't manage to get out of her what that includes yet, but Service Adviser said it's a 'big one' with belts etc

£900

if it's with belts, waterpump etc. it sounds about right. I think they say belts every 5 years but recommend every 4 years

Try an 'independent specialist' for a much cheaper quote.

At 8 years old this should be the second belt change!

Thanks for the replies - the timing belt was done 2 years ago for the first time (04/2018 with 9934 miles use and 5 years 4 month old) so not really due just yet.

I've just started servicing one of our cars myself and am thinking about doing the Abarth in the same way (have created a maintenance schedule spreadsheet from the service book and keeping records of dates and invoices for parts etc)

One thing I'm noticing is that I don't think the spark plugs have been changed on any of the services, despite the schedule recommending every year for petrol cars (not that I'd change them every year these days, but it has had 5 services all at main dealers and none of them have touched the spark plugs)

Spark plugs have an 18000 mile interval for replacement.

So your A500 is not due new just yet.

Oh good - did see that in the service schedule but there was conflicting information I saw (can't find it again now though) that mentioned every year for petrol engines.

18k miles sounds good to me so I'll stick to that - cheers :thumb:
