Dealer freebies
« on: December 03, 2009, 09:54:54 am »
Hi
Collecting my new abarth 500 at weekend and tried to push for a freebie or two but dealer wont budge...not even for a set of mats.  Am I not trying hard enough or do they all take this stance?

    Hi Rinsor,

Depends on how generous the dealership is and your negotiating skills. We got mats, discount and full ish tank of fuel. Probably too late now to get something, this needs to be done before you pay deposit while they are still hungry.

I got a £10's worth of fuel, that all the freebe's/discount that I got, it does seem to vary from dealer to dealer how much discount they give you!

If you haven't paid up in full yet I would certainly make it clear that as you didn't get a discount and didn't ask for one? that it would be lovely of them to throw in a set of mats please! They do pull some BS some dealers, but if you haven't paid in full yet I would bloody well push it. I mean a set of mats!  ::) I managed to get a set for my Abarth and for the Wife's 500C but I know what you mean it's like pulling teeth.
As Keith Richards tells it, Jones came up with the name "The Rollin' Stones" (later with the 'g') while on the phone with a venue owner. "The voice on the other end of the line obviously said, 'What are you called?' Panic. The Best of Muddy Waters album was lying on the floor—and track one was 'Rollin' Stone Blues'".

    Well, I got the following (all free);
    1. Set of wind deflectors
    2. Proper Fiat 500 air freshner
    3. Fiat 500 boot liner
    4. Fiat 500 rubber floor mats
    5. Set of Abarth mats
    6. 1st service FOC

Not too bad, however I did order my car with split rear seats but it came without them plus I had to go home on the train 40 minutes before I was due to pick it up because they had not told me what documents they needed and only thought to phone me just as I got off the train in Liverpool St.

Crikey Wilksy - did well there, think that's the most i've heard of on an Abarth! Two different sets of mats as well! Impressive! I managed to get a free ipod kit (included the little usb convertor stick with ipod holder and retracting cable) which was nice and really useful! Oh and 'discounted' abarth mats. Mats are worth getting. Pretty thin and i think they'll wear quickly, but the Abarth logo makes them!

I got mine from Richard Hardie last Sunday and got the following free with the car:

Set of Abarth Mats. (well, actually 2 sets as there was a set hidden in the boot - shhhhh!!! lol!  ;))
Full Tank of petrol. (The salesman even took me to the petrol station and filled it up himself, top bloke!!!)
    12 months AA recovery cover.
    12 months tax.
    An Abarth key ring.
And about 3 cups of coffee and a bunch of stickys to put my private plate on. Lol!

I know Abarth dealers are notoriously strict and it is near impossible to knock any money off the price of the car. As one of the earlier posts mentioned I think it depends alot on who you deal with. I spoke to 3 other dealerships in the UK and I had to haggle hard just to get a free set of mats. Dealerships need the sales at the end of the day and if your going to be paying alot of money to buy a car so you should be entitled to some freebies. My tip would be to ring other dealers in the UK and see what they can offer before going to your local dealer and haggling. That way if they don't budge you can say that you'll take your business elsewhere.

Not a bad haul but the AA cover is standard across the Fiat range and your 12 months tax is included in the OTR price so if your salesman tried to suggest those were free

We got 3 RC toy cars (£15 each) and a set of discounted mats. Only half tank fuel. And we were haggling for a long time and thats all we could manage.

The Esse Esse key covers were in the original advertising blurb that was released but never actually made it into the kit :thumbd:
The car will always only come with one remote key.
