Admiral have always been cheapest for me the past few years, and they added the TMC box to the policy without question (called it an engine management chip, with an 11-25% power increase) and the call centers are in South Wales so i can understand them (familiar accent!)

OK, so I could drive home the A500 and if there is a day or two cross over between cars leave the A500 parked up and use the Audi until its picked up by VW Finance, then switch over the insurance I have with Admiral.

Cheers, another problem solved by the forum
A500SS BNW.... loved every moment of ownership, but could be off to the world of JCW Minis soon - due in no small part to stupid spec constraints on the 595

I did ok with my insurance last week, was quoted a renewal at £811 by Direct Line, harsh im only 25 but with 6 years protected no claims.

By following links through topcashback to confused and go compare I earned 50p and £1.50 just for getting quotes, they both said hastings direct. I then followed a link from topcashback to hastings for a direct quote which came in at £526, for following to link and paying online I earned £53 in cash back (payable in January 2011 in fairness). A bit of leg work but worth it for a £350 in savings :thumb:

This is why i have stuck with bell as they are located in Cardiff so very nice to talk to them on the phone  :thumb:

Aviva through M&SMoney: about £300 for me.

I recently called to add business and they said over £600!  Called back 5 mins later and was offered an 8p refund for the remaining 3 months of the policy...  On a roll, I asked about adding SS springs, wheels, tyres and a chip and they added 20%.  Sounds fair, if unpredictable.

I didn't realise they were allowed to automatically renew your policy. I found this out after buying a new policy, checked my bank statement a few months later to see 2 payments to Admiral for around £1500!  :o Wasn't happy, but they obviously refunded me. Always worth shopping around, what's stopping you cancelling the policy?

Is there not a cooling off period?

if they automatically renew and you have already got cover elsewhere they have to refund you as you can,t have two policies on the same vehicle :thumb:

I'm with LV. They were extremely helpful when I added (then removed) the TMC box.  UK call centre which always helps, and seemed very reasonable - just over £100 extra for the box.

I was under the impression that the cooling off period still came with a cancelation charge. I've found a quote for £40 cheaper and that's without going through ant cash back site.

True to form though, I've gone and left it too late to deal with today (have only got up an hour ago) to ring them and ask....office shuts at 5.

Maybe I should try Elephant or LV. Tesco and Directline wanted £1800

Its kind of random what is best with what car and what "customer" I found, we currently have an Alfa and a Land Rover, and when I tried to put the Land Rover on Aviva who were cheap for Alfa it was super-expensive, and vice versa Tesco who insure the LR were very uncompetitive for the Alfa.

As some said earlier though, if you know the inside workings of these companies, they are all tied into best deals for new customers as that's what they expect so you HAVE to shop around, catch 22, their research says you will, their price structure reflects this, so it drives you to follow the price structure...

That's cause you were a "new" customer to elephant! The pricing models usually means the renewal is always more expensive than a new punter.

Interestingly they check your a customer if you get an online quote and fudge it to your renewal price.

2 years back I was ill with food poisoning for a week and forgot to renew, car was in garage and I could not travel outside a 10m radius of a toilet in any case, so policy with Aviva expired. Went online day later (ok, was some risk if house burnt down I suppose!) but as I was a "new" customer - with no existing policy - the price was £50 cheaper than the renewal they already sent me!

In summary, all insurance companies are thieves, and your best to do what you can to make sure your really getting their best price, not just a good price  :thumbd:

Going without insurance for a day or two doesn't invalidate your no claims or anything then?
