Gear ratios
« on: January 12, 2009, 01:10:17 pm »
I tried searching but could not find any information on the gearing, either here or generally on the web. Does anybody have any details of the gear ratios and what RPM the Abarth is doing in 5th gear at 70-80-100 MPH ? Wanted to get an idea of what it's like cruising on the motorway/superstrada etc.

Chunky would be the best one to ask, i'm sure he can get it off e-learn. He doesn't have access to the forum at work though so it will be tonight before he can get to you.

The only thing I remember is that 200kmh (125mph) the wee engine is revving around 5000.  So you can count back a wee bit and a guesstimate 100mph is about 400rpm (although I am sure the definate figures will show up later).

I did 1200 miles in it on the motorway last week, driving from Maastricht in Holland to Hull, UK and back again in 3 days and it didnt make me feel overly tired or cramped etc.  Pretty good fun actually!

That must be for the GP - as the 500 is only a 5 cog box.

And don't we need the final drive ratio to translate these numbers into something meaningful?

Any idea how that translates to mph/1000rpm in each gear?

There's not much resembling an overdrive in there.......
