Alloy Wheel Refurbishment
« on: September 12, 2014, 11:49:49 am »
Right, I'm almost down to the legal limit on my rear tyres.  And the fronts have started to wear on the inside.  So me thinking seriously about a new set of tyres.  Probably the p zero neros again, or maybe Michelin of some description (I know tyres are discussed at length in many other threads, so I'll check those out).

At the same time I'm thinking of getting the alloys refurbed.  I'm thinking powder coat in the same shade (or closest to it) of white.  The diamond cut edges will be lost, but I'm hoping that will look ok - will certainly be more robust in the long term.  My question is, I'm thinking of using Lepsons in Gillingham - anyone have any experience of them?

Also, I am after a big favour - Does anyone have a spare set of wheels that I can borrow whilst I send the petals away for refurbishment?  Purely to have on the car so it can sit on the driveway, so the petals can be taken to Lepsons, along with the new tyres.  Car will not be used during that time.  I know they do a 'leave your car there while the wheels are being done' service, but I cant bear the thought of it not being jacked correctly and left to stand like it for days!  Anyone?  I'd be much obliged to you!

Thanks,
Steve

Bought a new set of 10 spokes with unused tyres for about £100 more than the cost of the rubber a couple of years ago. Cheaper than a refurb and a handy spare pair of wheels  to boot. Not seen so many sets though since the 595 released.

That's a good idea but I do like the white alloys with red, will be difficult to find some white ones.

I bought these yesterday at the breakers. From a fiat bravo I think. I can put these on the back wheels and refurb two at a time. One can also live in the spare wheel well in the boot. I wasn't very happy with the price though. £25 each!
