Door sills
« on: January 26, 2014, 10:19:59 am »

I was just wondering if anyone has any practice and advice on fitting metal door kick plates.
I have a A500 just wondering what kind of work is involved in this?

Worth it?

Thanks All. :)

Aaaaaa so the black plastic gets taken off? I have the standard A500 so no metal there. How did you fix it on?

They are very easy to fit and come with all the necessary bits n pieces.

Here are mine that I had last summer (with my old mats in the background lol). I went for the brushed look instead of chrome but both look nice & are top quality too   :thumb:

They cost me £40 from this seller - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-500-Abarth-2-Door-Sills-Plates-Stainless-Steel-Mat-Finish-/190831000885?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c6e69fd35

Hmm i wonder if im looking at the wrong bit and making myself sound stupid talking about the black bit. I thought they sat on the black part where the rigid lines are as you can see in the bottom photo.

So ibviously nothing needs removing. Dont have any on anyway.

So what is the actual fixing then? No joles to drill etc?

Thanks for the photos guys and tips really appreciate it!!

    My 2 pence worth..

I bought some for my punto a few years ago..
Brushed is alot better as the chrome shiney ones get scratched way too easy.I had shiney chrome and within a few months they looked worn. :thumbd:

I found putting them on a bit of a pain in the back side..i was very careful trying to put them on level but once they stuck down i noticed it wasnt 100% straight.Even though i hadnt stuck it down 100% i tried to start again by pulling them off to start again but they was really wedged on and i ended up bending them trying to remove them which then lead to not fitting well.So be  very careful :)
Now with added monza fun :P

The application tape is already fixed on one side of the ones I got, so all you do is peel the backing off and place them in position.

To get them in the right spot laterally put them where you want them to go before you peel the backing off and put a small strip of masking tape at each end. Then to get them level all you do is put them on by pivoting the sill plate on the edge that runs nearest the door exterior; then they will be perfectly in place, as the leading edge is tapered with the sill itself   :thumb:

Press down firmly from the center going out, with each hand moving in the opposite direction. It's a 2 minute job, which makes a massive difference both visually and in a practical sense too, £40 well spent I'd say.

Post some pics when done, hope this helps buddy!

I would add, make sure that the area where the sticky pads go are dry and grease free
