Title: MTA gearbox for track use?

Hi all,

Looking to get a 595 MTA, it will be used for local runs, weekend fun and perhaps start doing the odd track day. Mod wise I don't think I'd want to push it beyond 200hp or thereabouts.

My question is how reliable the MTA box is and if it can handle track days? I previously had an R53 Cooper S auto where the gearbox went pop from normal road use so I don't fancy experiencing that again!

If its any help, the clutch and gearbox is the same whether manual or MTA.

Its only the robotised solenoid operation of the clutch and gear change on top of the gearbox that's different.

Ah that's interesting. I wonder if that means it's any less prone to overheating like a normal slush box auto would? That is my main concern. DSG's, ZF's etc seem to hold up fine

It is definitely not a liquid torque convertor slush box :thumb:

as I'm sure you know, it's NOT an 'auto' Its a robotised manual ( ie conventional gearbox and clutch plus bits). I couldn't imagine why it'd be any different on track compared with a normal manual-unless the 'robot' has a hiccough.

That makes sense!

A more general question, how do you know if the car is a 140 or a 160? Is it from the turbo or based on the year?

A 160 would be a Tourismo or early Comp

140 will be standard trim

Slow, like really slow, off the line from 0 mph, much quicker gearchanges than you can do with an manual.
