Please help
« on: September 23, 2021, 07:23:49 pm »
Hello guys,

I'm new to this so if I posted under the wrong read I do apologies.
My wife decided to buy herself a 595 competizione 2010 car with 50k on the clock, the car looks decent for a 11 years old car. I went with her to see the car, and when I drove it, a very odd lack in power, I had a Abarth before and that was super fast compering to this one, like something was holding the car back, under full acceleration the car seamed not to pull away as you should.
What should I look for? seams to struggle up the rpd range.
The car has a brand new automatic gearbox but still had a huge lag when you're changing gears, can this been fixed/improved in any way?
And last, can you guys tell me if this a competizione or not? what should I look for when I'll see the car next?

Many thanks,
Alex

First of all welcome to the forum.

As it's a 2011 car then its an Abarth 500C with 135bhp MTA

It will not be a 595 or even a Competizione.

If it still is a 135 then obviously its performance will be down on 160bhp or 180bhp models.

Have you actually purchased it or looking pre purchase?

    Thank you for you reply.
I haven't bought it yet, we are planning to do it so, but I had few doubts in my head.
We were looking at a 2012 Abarth 500c with ramair duct and silicon elbow from the turbo but the gearbox change on that one was way smother than this one. What will be your advise then?

    Many thanks.

Personally, I'd look for a non modified car first.

If none take your fancy then lightly modified similar to the 'ram air' car.

Do make sure at the very least a cam belt has had a recent change or budget it into the cost. :thumb:

    hello,

thank you for your response, the one who initially we thought was a comp is dead stock and has full service history with the cam belt and water pump changed at 53K the car currently has 56 899 and has a brand new gearbox done with paper works of 3k.
the second one that we looked at, with the ram air intake has 70k full service history but nothing is specified reg a cam belt change, the curent owner he bought it last November and hasent done it up tp this point, the service has been done 2 days ago but the standard oil + filter and tyres all around.

What should I look for as a big NO NO ?

    Many thanks

Sorry to hijack this a little but our 2010 Abarth 500C MTA has a silver sticker on the B pillar that looks OEM and says it is 140bhp ?  As far as buying one goes I would always look at service history, doesn't matter if done by owner or not as long as they have receipts for parts etc and lets face it, you can always tell another petrol head

    RE Stickers:

They used to come with them but unfortunately I can't find a pic right now.  Most interior shots are too zoomed in to see the pillar.  My UK spec '09 had one, silver as you mentioned, somewhere on the pillar near the striker/latch.  My one stated 135 as that was what all were from factory at the time.  The sticker was not updated as part of the Esseesse package I had fitted before delivery.  A similar sticker was also on the 1.4 160hp Alfa Mito I had as a courtesy car when I had the Blue&Me unit replaced.

It looks like it might differ from country to country. I did find pics that show a yellow and white sticker which I think is a tyre inflation guide.  Some also had this plus another one lower down on the curve at the bottom of the pillar but I can't make any of that out from the pictures.

    Hi guys,

thank you so much for your messages, I end up buying a Stock Abarth, 2010 cabriolet MTA, full service history, Cambelt and water pump done 1k miles ago and I have new receipt for a new gearbox fitted.
I'm planning to put a forge intake on it, Coilovers and do a tune on it. not necessary for the power but apparently will cure a bit of the gearbox lag. Is it true?
what do you guys recommend to add/ modify on my car?
    Many thanks guys

I have a 2017 MTA the trick is to learn how to use the gearbox planting the foot into the carpet and flicking the paddles won't cut it, it requires mechanical sympathy in auto a slight lift of the throttle when you anticipate a change up, it took me a few days to get the hang of it the gear changes are imperceptible and quick, I think most of the criticism of the MTA gearbox is not justified you just have to learn how to use it, if you believe it is genuinely slow get a scan to check the parameters.

Did you only drive it in Auto mode? We have had our 180hp MTA for 6 years now and we never ever drive it in auto.

Drive it in manual and use the paddels

    thanks guys for your reply.

I started to get the hang of the MTA gearbox. playing with the paddles make it more pleasant to drive.

what sort of modification should I do first?
    what do you guys recommend?

    cheers

You can still use the paddles in auto I tend to use the paddles if I want to get some lively acceleration in sport mode I prefer not to use the paddles for aggressive downshifts (to preserve the clutch) the auto does it better than I can
