Rear View Mirror !
« on: June 12, 2009, 11:52:21 am »
Is it just me or is the rear view mirror a pain ??  Everytime Im charging into a left hand bend i have to look around the Bl**dy mirror...feel like throwing it in the bin.  Can also be a bit dangerous as obstructs vision of oncoming cars when turning.   Still in love though !

I haven't really had a problem with the mirror, but the big 'A' posts can often get in the way when trying to see around corners.

    Hi 2TSG

After coming from a GP, I have found that the mirror is right in my eye-line on the A500 (on the GP the mirror sat higher and I sat lower so it wasn't a problem)

I have occasionally found myself "ducking" slightly or leaning to the right to see when going to unfamiliar locations trying to see road signs... but I'm getting used to it

It's still not as bad as those twonks who stick their SatNavs right in the middle of the windscreen  :thumbd:

would'nt mind but i'm only 5'10 !!    perhaps i'm a short arse with a long body.     whilst on a moan...the seat belt keeps getting stuck behind my seat, i bet that will become more of a problem with the new aftermarket seats.

Yep the mirror location is truly awful and does create a dangerous blindspot in unsighted left hand bends. It's a combination of the curved roofline leading to a narrow rear window that dictates it's position coupled to the SUV height seating position that creates the problem for taller drivers  :thumbd:

Not quite in the way, but could be a bit higher.  The boost guage adds to the crowded feel.  (pauper mirror)

Half the time, when at traffic lights, I have to watch the light through the glass roof, as the combination of high seating postion and massive 'A'-pillars mean that I can't see it in front of me.

The lack of visibility makes driving an adventure every time.

yes - and definitely is in reverse - i even try and reverse into supermarket spaces now, despite the extra hassle loading the boot. had a very near miss the other week edging out...very slowly, watching every angle (as i thought) then this car appeared out of what seemed like nowhere - if they hadnt been bright enough to drive around me then ive no doubt i would have reversed, albeit very slowly, straight into them. zero vis at certain points in this - scary stuff.

I think this is a common thing nowadays in small cars.....my current Suzuki Swift has large pillars and you play the guess when the lights change game all the time if your first at the line........reversing in the latest Clio was a chore and i think they said the same with the latest Fiesta.  Sometime you just have to live with it .....AND as for carparks dont get me started , people whizz round at 30 plus and you look and start to reverse then have to jab the brakes as some Ar$e flys by at what appears to be the speed of light trying to beat Mr Mondeo and his family to that last space on the level, completely missing the fact that your leaving

i suppose so - my previous car was a seicento, which had fantastic all round visibility (i know thats mostly due to pillars so thin that the whole car would crumple up like a piece of paper, but at least you would see it coming!)
