Help in buying my first Abarth
« on: February 02, 2020, 11:24:01 pm »
Hi all,  I am looking to get my first Abarth and hoping to get some tips here selecting the variant I should go for and pitfalls to avoid.

So far, I have sort of made up my mind to go with 2016 facelift 595 to get Apple car play which is nice to have along with the more aggressive front bumper.  In terms of model, I like Trofeo which seems like a good balance between Competizione and Tourismo.  I would have liked Competizione but is couple of thousand dearer and I am not sure if it is worth it.  Maybe I will be kicking myself few months down the line but at this point Trofeo seems like a good option.  I understand the smaller Turbo in Trofeo and Tourismo is limiting factor in terms of remap and I will have to swap that if I want to remap.  I am not sure if that is the only thing I will be replacing if looking for extra power and if so how much the bigger turbo usually cost?  I have driven a 145 but nothing else so not sure how 160 and 180 bhp stack up.  Doesn't seem a lot on paper but I believe in such a tiny car it would be quite noticeable and of course how the power is delivered across the rpm range.

Little bit about my situation, this is going to be my second car and will be mostly used for city driving and for those B road joy rides.  I drive an F10 M5 and with a 3 year old in the back, that's a better and more comfortable car on long trips and of course that much needed boot space.

Any guidance, experiences to help me choose would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Have you test driven them yet?

Im not sure how much 2nd hand turbos go for, but on TMC website a Garret GT1446 Turbo is around 800 sterling. I believe that's the one a lot of drivers go for when upgrading the turbo.

I'm not sure how restrictive the airboxes on the newer models are but my 2010 A500 had an awful intake setup - get yourself a Forge Induction kit if you want some extra decibels and a fiesty sounding bay. Never looked back since installing mine and it's opened up the car.

As for other guidance, look meticulously for your usual warning signs, and depending on age ensure its had the timing belt replaced in line with the sevice intervals.

    Good luck!
