2000Mi Review of my 595 Turismo
« on: November 25, 2015, 11:24:38 pm »
Hello all,

My name is Alex and this is my first post on this forum. I picked up my Officina Red 595 Turismo at the end of September and have just ticked over 2000 miles, so thought I would give a quick review/summary of my experience so far.

Prior to the Abarth I owned a 13 Plate Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo, with a 1.2tsi engine. Which was a great car, but even with my own little modifications, still lacked character and excitement (mainly due to it being a practical skoda...).

I have been looking at abarths for a few years but due to only being 20, have struggled for insurance. However I did some calculations and worked out that I could now afford one :) So picked my very own 595 up September this year.

I love the car. It's everything the skoda wasn't. Quick enough, fun, handles great, has bags of character, sounds awesome and gets a serious amount of attention. I totally understand why many people on this forum keep buying abarth after abarth, and I am extremely pleased with it.

I have had a few issues since owning it. 900 miles in the brake pedal switch broke, which was fixed promptly by my local dealer. The rear suspension has also started knocking and the clutch pedal has decided to start squeaking. These two problems will hopefully be sorted in the next few weeks.

I could talk about the fuel economy and how good the ride is etc.. but in all honesty I didnt buy the car with any consideration to the two factors... as I simply wanted the abarth as a car I could enjoy and have fun in, which I do!

Hopefully be upgrading the exhaust and a few other bits in the next few months, but we will see.

Will try and get some photos up in the next few days once I have access to the computer.

Thanks!

Hi Alex. That's a great first post and it would be good to see some pictures of your pride and joy. They are great little cars. I have owned some expensive toys in the past but few have captured my enthusiasm the way my Abarth has. They are definitely a car with a broad appeal across all ages. You may want to look at putting Fiat Coupe Bump Stops on the rear if that's what is causing the rear knocking. Other members may be able to help on that front.

    Anyway welcome  :thumb:

The clutch pedal weld will have snapped at the mount at the top. I drove with it like that for about 5,000 miles before having replaced. It's 3 hours labour, £134 for the pedal & £68 for the master cylinder. Parts can only be bought from fiat unfortunately!

Well.. there is apparently nothing wrong with the suspension, but I have traced the knocking/banging to the foam insert in the spare wheel well... regarding the clutch Abarth need to replace the clutch master cylinder and they will apparently need it for 2 days... :(

2 days to do a clutch change?! Jeez! I pity the guy who has to pay.

They've had the car just under 2 days. It's ready for collection now... They've replaced the clutch master cylinder, sound proofed the spare wheel well and replaced both shock absorbers on the back... Fingers crossed no more problems.

What have they used for soundproofing the spare wheel well?

Just read your opening post, I too used to have a Fabia but I had the vrs which was super charged and turbo charged with the dsg gear box was fantastic however it drank more oil than petrol. I agree the Abarth is everything the Skoda isn't, it's not the fastest, best put together or high spec but it's so much fun, I enjoy it every drive! Of all the cars I've owned on the mk1 mx5 can match it for fun.

    Feel your annoyance.
Any chance the knocking could be the exhaust?
What about the rear seats, have you checked that they are locked down properly?

Checked the seats, and checked the majority of every other potential rattle/knock locations.. the noise is worse than before. And is mixture of a knock and as if something is loose, in the boot.. Which is the same as what it sounded like before.
