Sticky calipers ?
« on: February 12, 2011, 07:21:13 pm »
I know the sticky rear calipers have been covered in another thread but I thought this deserved a whole new thread.

My wife had her A500 out the other day and said it 'felt funny' when she pulled out of our drive. Having read the other thread on sticky rear calipers I gave the discs a quick visual inspection - a bit rusty but there again the car's been stood a few days and it's been raining heavily. I took the car out for a run and then checked the discs again. The front left one was nice and shiny. The two rear ones had score marks and signs of uneven pressure. The front right one was horrendous - the outer edge was clean, the rest was still heavily rusted.

I removed the wheel and caliper and soon found the problem - most of the face of one brake pad was missing and it looked like bits of it were stuck to the disc. Also I don't know how much pressure it takes to move the two halves of the caliper together but I certainly couldn't move it by hand. So.........looks like a trip to the dealer on Monday. I've never used the service department before because (and this is what I'm really p****d off about) the car's only done 85 miles  :thumbd:

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear if anyone has had similar problems in such a new car.

Chris.
