...eventually you becomed resigned to the fact that the stereo system will never work fully and get used to it trying to find and run MP3 files even when you don't have any plugged in.... 
Had this problem in mine for a while, but turned out to be self inflicted... if the engine is turned off with file(s) still playing and then USB device removed, it will always try to locate it on start up. I rectified it by: plugging a USB music device in, once playing click the voice command menu button and say 'Stop'. It will then stop the media reader and you can turn off the stereo normally and remove the USB and you're done.
