To C or not to C? That is the question.
« on: July 15, 2011, 04:57:59 pm »
Hi Abarthistis,

I'm new to the forum (first post!!!) so please be gentle. I've got a conundrum and wanted to turn to owners and enthusiasts for some input to help me make my decision.

I've always loved the A500 and since it came out I've maintained how much I would love one. That time has now come. But! I am not sure wether to go for a convertible (which I now by some will be regarded as a "hairdressers" car) or to go for the tin top. If I go tin top it will be well specced with Blue & Me, sky dome, climate control, speaker upgrade, paint upgrade and wheel upgrade to 17s. If I go for the Convertible spec is speakers, wheels and climate control.

I can anticipate what some of you might say "only you can make up your own mind" / "dont be a loser be a poser" / "dont be a poser get a proper roof"  but wanted to hear it from the scorpions mouth so to speak.

I've got a drive in both next week and no doubt that will play a big part in by decision.

Thanks in advance peeps.

Zuko.

Before the C had a manual option, I would have said Tin Top all the way.

Now though, the world is your oyster as the manual is availalbe in both.

Differences? Well, broader colour spectrum with the C; option of roof down (obviously); apparently limited visibility out the back of the C (if that troubles you); less of them about although neither are particularly common; bit more expensive generally I believe.

What would I have now? Tin top still but, in the right colour, the C is a lovely looking car.

     :)

Still seems to be a bit of confusion around about the HiFi upgrade (interscope)
The upgrade is standard equipment on the tin top but a £266 option on the C.

i wonder why abarth are trying to cash in on extras on the c.

e.g hifi an optional extra on an already more expensive car?
and i think i remember seeing the red rings around the centre caps being extra cost aswell as red brake callipers where as on the tin top its all standard? ???
Now with added monza fun :P

different cars get different specs, Cs get xenons and parking sensors as standard on thier spec, the hifi thing kind of makes sense if you have the roof down a lot you wouldn't hear the radio  ;D

    This tbh ^^

I don't know which way I would jump if I was buying now either, probably tintop but thats more because I hate xenons with a passion. Tough choice but which ever you go you won't be disappointed  :thumb:

Give and take. Xenon's and rear parking sensors are standard on the C, but both extra cost on the hatchback.

If I had the chance to alter my spec, I'd get the auto dimming mirror (and a manual gearbox of course)

Now that I'm a grown up I drive a sensible grey 595 Competizione with grey leather sabelt seats and yellow brake calipers. It's jolly nice! It's got a name - ' Razzogrigio' Now with a custom S/S group N style exhaust, black Esseesse wheels and a GTT induction kit, all sitting on Eibach springs.

    C + Monza =  ;D

    Corrected that for you:

    Monza =  ;D
    Monza + windows down =  ;D ;D
    C + Monza =  ;D ;D ;D
AND (the only real reason for saying this): SS + C + flappy paddles =  gear shift; bang;  ;D; gear shift; bang; ;D; gear shift; bang;  ;D etc......

I am also in the Market for an A500 or A500c and pretty certain i will go for the c. With the c you get the option in the summer to have the roof down and the win blowing through your hair!
    Proud A500c owner.

Hi Zuko, before our A500 we had  Fiat 500c white with a red hood. looked real nice. but the hood is a bit of a pain. As you may know you can have it in three different positions. no matter which one you use, the wind makes so much noise and when you put the little wind spoiler up above the windscreen, its even worse. The struts inside the hood rattle quite a bit too when closed. plus as the hood comes down the back of the car,it gets really dirty. we could see just how bad the dirt was affecting the hood after just 8 months. thats why we went for the hard top in the A500. take one out for a test and you'll see what i mean. hope this helps.

Coming from a tin top m3 I always envied those with convertibles, buying the tin top partly because i got more for my money but also because it was the "drivers option".

What's been said by the others is what I would have said if I'd got in first. Flip a coin, both are great fun little cars  :thumb:

Think you've hit the nail on the head. Convertible / tin top both i hope deliver a decent drive certainly on the road which is where 99.99% of my driving will be. If my inclination was to attend numerous track days I think it'd be wise to go for the tin top.

Quite surprised with the number of people backing the C, thought it was going to be an all out tin top camp.

Saw a black/white C today after I had posted...looked utterly blinking gorgeous, and pretty much made up made there and then. I think if the two were parked up and I had the option of taking the key of either the Cs extra pazaaz would draw me in.

    Histis - grazi!  8)

What did you spec...aside from the above?? From what I've heard the dimming mirror is somewhat pointless in the C...maybe an xray mirror should be an additional option
