I have the xenons and LOVE them. Compared the the normal light I had on my swift they are excellent.  I wouldnt have any problems in recommending them.

Here is a link to the pictures of my Xenons.  I took these as I couldn't find any others on the 'tinterweb.

Is the A500 poor in snow?

Worse than poor in the snow.  Many members of the forum didn't use theirs for weeks.  There is a thread called 'snow' somewhere that gives you an idea of what it was like.

But once I got a snow chains they were great.  No damage to the alloys or car and it was surprising how much snow it really could get through.  After being last in the office at midnight when it did snow, I didn't fancy being stuck again!

    Not good!

I used to have a Mazda RX8 which literally couldn't move if it snowed a fair bit.

I've had a wee read of the posts of those who have upgraded their headlights, as I assume the Xenons weren't available at the time.

Apart from being a wee bit fiddly to fit them they certainly work out a lot cheaper to do this than get the factory fitted Xenons.

I'm really struggling to justify £ 500 for Xenons when this looks almost as good and certainly better than the standard headlights.

    Thoughts?

But do the after market ones have the built in washers and washer bottle and all the gubbins that go with them and are they self levelling like the factory ones are?  Or are they just straight headlight change?  If that's the case I wouldn't do after market.

The standard xenons are more expensive, but are fully warranted. I have fitted an aftermarket kiot to one of my cars and while the light is spot on, I have had some issues.

    1) when it was very cold in winter the lights did not light up staight away, they flickered a bit first, then lit up. Fault warning on dashboard

    2) when turned on the put a background hiss on the FM radio.

    Headlamp washers are nice

Was just thinking of changing the bulbs for brighter ones.

Im sure Xenons will be better..had them on a number of cars and they are great....but...remember whilst the Abarth 500 is built in Poland this is an Italian designed car...and Italian designed electrics have something of a reputation!

Happiness with a Italian car...keep it simple
Misery with an Italian car...load it up with expensive options

and keep it lightweight...that's what Abarths are about!

Strangely enough it was always British cars that had the bad electrics reputation, not for nothing was Lucas known as the "Prince of Darkness"

Having owned far more than my fair share of Italian cars (and bikes), can't say I've had any issue with wiring or electrics since the 70s

Its a simple decision, if you drive at night you need the Xenons, otherwise you might as well buy something slower

I drive at night and seem to manage well enough without them.  £500 is the price of a G-Tech chip.

In the distant past I recall fitting a solenoid to my 126 to effectively by-pass the car electrics and allow the full 12v to the weedy headlights.  That really did make a driving difference.
