And it all comes down to ........ which car is the most agile with the power.

The Abarth 500ss is 100kg heavier than the new MX-5 (ND).... the new 124 Abarth is already 60kg heavier than the MX-5.

The 500 also has that VERY annoying TCS system that cuts the power, on a hill climb it takes away roughly 2 seconds.

I'm helping record some Hillclimbing next weekend as it goes, 180 comp vs biposto

If its Werrington, I'll there too, number 26, in my MX5 though :P  first time for me.  :o

I did think I should be running my Punto when I saw the Abarths on the entry list.

Never found TC to be too much of an issue on the APESS except for when running on loose surface stuff (gravel/mud)

I’ve not got around to testing my SS up against my Mazda at the same venue but even though the Mazda feels gutless I think the SS would struggle to match the 5 around a technical lap, and it can barely crack 60 in 8s.

Results from Prescott Hill Climb yesterday pretty much confirm what you have said...

Off the line the 500 is typically quickest to 64ft and passing the first speed trap at a consistently clinical 56mph.  However by halfway its loosing out a second or two with the quickest 500SS being 3.5 secs behind the lead MX5 at the finish.

Obvious different drivers, etc but on comparison of the results they show that whilst the 500 is making up time between the timing points, it is being lost on the more techincal bits.

its really hard to tell, it would be very course dependent too, without same drivers also, at Castle Combe Sprint in March, I was 4 secs clear of much more powerful MX5s in a group of 15, its my local track, so know it well (but still made mistakes) quicker than elises and Clios which surprised me, and I was on normal road rubber struggling for grip :D

The APE might be better suited to some that a 500 with its short snappy 6 speed and the torque out of corners, 500 gearing can be a bit long, my MX5 suffers from this with its 5spd at some venues, I just don't have the right ratio in the box to fire out of some tight corners where the APE would be like an exocet :D

Just had a look at the Prescott results, did you compete in that one yourself?

The MX5 that appears to have been quickest was Shaun West, a red Mk3 BBR Super 200, so wouldn’t feel so bad, basically my car on steroids and with a 6 spd box, so it should shift, he was struggling with it at the Great Western Sprint, I was 8s ahead of him, I wonder if he took my setup info I shared on the forum after combe?

Oh nice one! You wont miss me I'll be in a PINK High Vis (yes really) with a beard along the track at various stages, lol.
Good luck! Will see if I can get some shots of you on the hill with my still camera :)

I can't forget the number.... 26, it's my birthday tomorrow, ha ha. :thumb:

Not competed by the way, been thinking about it but my back has other ideas, I'll prob be sitting most of the day on a shooting stick taking pics ha ha.

Another time, I am doing the Hillclimb and Sprint Association Championship in the MX5 class, so can't really change cars as I need the points.

    http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fiat-announces-pricing-for-all-new-2017-124-spider-300259993.html

Apparently US pricing will be $28,000 for the Abarth version, works out at about £20,000. Seems a bit unfair that we'd have to pay £30k for ten more horsepower...

Hoping once they get these Ltd edition plaque ones out the way they might drop the price down.

    Not holding my breath though.

i think maby abarths got abit greedy.

speaking to sales man in research he said..."if you price up the parts individual like the lsd youl see why it mounts up to that much"..so in his opinion its a fair price. don't know if  it was sales talk though
Now with added monza fun :P

It's always been the sum of the parts is more than the whole.

In Australia we are only getting the Abarth, and not the 124. Apparently they didn't want to compete with the MX5 with the 124. Still no word on pricing, but speculation has been at around $40k. That would make £30k seem way overpriced.
