Lol true. I guess you have an original stunning 124?by your pic?what do you think of the new one owning the original?:)

I've got a truly stunning 124 AC Coupe but my red 124 spider is just a tatty runabout although I intend to make the blue one into a replica.

I do enjoy driving the 124 spider and being LHD adds to the fun but I have not managed to drive the new one or a MX5.  Maybe soon. :thumb:

Hi and sorry to slightly hijack this page, but '124Abarthreplica' I have just sent you a PM which is relevant to this thread.
I hope you can see the message.
This is my 1st activity on here (but I've been an active 'Pistonheads member' for 12 years) and I have joined to keep up to date with the 124 Abarth as I am seriously considering one.
Looking forward to seeing more threads as the availability date gets closer.
    Cheers,
    Jon

I have placed my order! It was built a week ago and should be heading for Turin soon. I won't see it till October though.

Heading to Turin? Is it true they are built in Japan and shipped to Italy for all the Abarth bits then? Heard that is part of the high cost.

Apparently yes, there's a video that explains it:

It is indeed expensive and I was so tempted to take the Fiat route, which in  my book is it's only real rival (I only every buy Alfas, Fiats, Lancias and Abarths for myself). But, based on my previous behavior, I'm pretty confident that every time I saw an Abarth I'd wish I'd bought one and would end up changing it 1 year in.  I'd  also considered keeping my Brera and spending 20K on a classic, but I've done that before and end up not using them. So, by my standards, this is a pretty sensible choice.

Interesting to watch that and hear they are only making 2'500 of these models in it's first year of life. His answer to the question what happens the 2500? 'Ahhhh... We shall see'.

I think there is definitely a more powerful, more hardcore esseesse model (2.0L - 220bhp) coming and I can't wait for that.

They won't even need to go to 2.0L to go for a hardcore version,  if they want 250HP,  they'll just drop in the 1750 from the 4C and Giulietta if they want 250HP. I think 190-200hp is more likely, and they can get that from the 1.4 if they want to. It'll probably depend on how much the gearbox and diff are designed to take.

More likely the 2.0L lump Morte. They already have one designed and built for the car within the rally 124 running 300bhp. Have heard from a very good source that it is likely to happen with the hard top upgrade. Price will be an interesting one mind.

Really? That sounds mad, but in a good way. I wonder how much they'll charge for that?? Upwards of 40K I expect.

The 300bhp Rally would be something, but I thought there was the whole joint partnership thing between Mazda and Fiat where the wouldn't make a production car than was significantly more powerful than the Mx-5?

I mean part of me agrees with lots of folks here that Abarth's generally have enough Bhp and are fast enough... I'm not denying that they are great fun, honestly I'd struggle to part with mine but part of me does want to buy into a proper thoroughbred, quality Italian brand (for reasonable money). They're not cheap although I think they're pretty reasonable, particularly second hand. I do think quality has to improve just a little and hopefully we'll see that on the series 4 595 and 124. I also feel that "performance" wise Abarths are found wanting without mods compared to the competition's price tag or not much more than your top spec comp/124.. Such as golf r/RS/135i/S3 Alpha are on the move with the 500bhp Giulia, and talk of a formula 1 team next year, yes it's £50,000+ but begins to menace the Deutsche autobahn stormers. For me I'd like to see a 300+ bhp hard top for ~£40,000, oh and a add a F1 Abarth team to the list,  pigs might fly...

No mention of 300 bhp. All I know is it was touted at at least 220 bhp. It could be a special edition much like the Biposto and cost ridiculous money though knowing Abarth. I would happily spend 35-40k on a 124 if it was running enough power to give it a low 5s 0-62 time. Guess we will just have to wait and see, curious to know if the series 4 Abarth will get any more than the 180 bhp as it travels through it's model life.

I put my deposit down about a month ago an the Abarth. Heard from the dealer this week that production was on schedule and expect delivery into Australia mid-late next month.
