Title: CA18 MMV
Post by: Buzz on October 15, 2020, 10:32:52 pm
A long shot, I know but does anyone know this 124?  It's one I'm considering buying.

Hi Buzz. Sorry I don’t know the reg but maybe as a community we can help. What are your concerns?

It's white with red/black seats etc., apparently registered in the Cardiff area in June 2018.

It's the manual car I tried  after I test drove the auto one I actually had my eyes on and didn't like. I tried this one at the same dealer mainly to see if I'd prefer a manual (which I did as it turned out).

I didn't pay too much attention to the condition as I hadn't got a white one in mind at the time. I did notice that the rear nearside bumper was misaligned (pushed in at the wheel arch end).  I have a photo but don't seem to be able to post it. The dealer has had that fixed (I haven't seen a good photo of the fix yet) and said it was a loose clip, which doesn't really make sense as there was no movement in it.  I'd like to find out if the car has "history". The odd thing is that it seemed to be aligned in the original advert photos.

I just tried adding an image from flickr but was blocked.

Ouuuhhh.

That is tricky.

I had hoped it would be more, sat Nav or seats question. Minor crash, dent etc is not my skill set. Anyone else got some thoughts?

If in doubt walk away. There are a few 124’s around and it might be better to go for a different one. However I am happy to be corrected by others with expertise.

If you can get photos or a link to the dealers web site that might help.

Good luck

And here is a link to the dealer's advert (before I looked at the car). To me, it looks aligned in the photos.

Hi Buzz, thanks for the photos. I would welcome others opinions here.... but I Will say I had a slightly misaligned bumper on our last family car, just like this. I bought it a year old and kept it for 10 years. It was a great car but every time I passed the area I noticed it.

IF you were to go ahead I would have the dealership fix it. IMHO.

What do others think?

Thanks for your thoughts.  The dealer has fixed it although the photos he's sent are not very clear.

What's puzzling me is that it looks aligned in the original photos!  But he says nothing's happened to it while they've had it.

The dealer is 3 hours away from me, is there anyone in the Solihull area who could pop along and have a look for me?

FWIW, the dealer sent me some more photos. The problem now is that it's very tight at the wheel arch end (I can envisage the paintwork rubbing at some point in the future).  It can be adjusted but it shouldn't be for the customer to point these things out.  I think I'll pass on this one.

I suspect buying an Abarth 124 is a special purchase, it was for me. So getting it right without dealership concerns is important. Frankly there are more fish in the sea, winter is coming and I’d hold on for a one without any questions marks.

If you can get visibility pack I’d recommend it, also BOSE, but I do understand there are not that many fish ;). I’ve fitted a reversing camera, or you can have one fitted...check my post rough guide to buying. Any questions just shout and the community will do our best to help.

Ok, this didn't go to plan.

Fate (a.k.a my wife) stepped in and suggested that, as I was going to be spendng that sort of money, maybe I should consider more "age appropriate" alternatives.  Within the space of 24 hours, I had seen, test-driven and bought a Mercedes SLC200 for not a whole lot more money - manual (I didn't agree with critics' review of this at all), fully loaded and with just 2k miles.

I'll pop into the forum occasionally, to see what might have been.

Thanks for the update Buzz. Hope you have a great time with the Merc, you will miss the sound of the 124 and the drive etc. However we all understand life does not go to plan.
