How was it? The auto box was the minor negative ive read on most reviews.

    I'd say 50/50

First the stance was impressive, way better than the MX5 although RF version grabs a little kudos back.

The road holding and handling were first class and you felt part of the car where as the 500, you are sitting in the car.

The down side were the engine and clutch/gearbox.

The acceleration was nothing to shout about. 6.8 seconds to 100kph did not feel it.  There was no kick in the back torque.
I was flat out from standstill, changing gear with paddles in manual mode, up to third redlining in first and second. Just was not exciting as my 20VT Coupe is.

The 'Monza' exhaust was a total disappointment, nothing like the 500 version.  Only achieved one 'pop' and very subdued.

The twin clutch plate gear change was another let down. It was so slow.  The 'dualogic MTA' version is much better.

To sum up, it is a very civilized 'sports' car perhaps too civilized.

Where as the 500/595 is a hooligan fun car with a more involved engine and gearbox, the 124 Abarth is much more mature

Better than the 500 round the bends but not as much fun.

Interesting, did you drive it at the Goodwood FOS?

Had a look at them on Thursday, thought they looked pretty good and aggressive from the front 3 quarter view and rear, side profile is nothing overly special.

The quality is there though, look well put together, but we know who responsible for that  ;D

Funnily enough pretty much how I would sum up my MX5 versus my Abarth early on, but the 5 was a grower once I started to really get to grips of its limits, reckon the gearbox might be killing it for you though, killed the 4C for me, a manual will be more involving.

Oh yeah definitely! Nice to drive the hill also, drove a GT86 up there a couple of years ago, was good fun.

What did you think of the looks of it in the flesh? Somehow I thought it looked bigger than the MX5. The red was much darker than I thought it was, maybe because the new 595 they had there was such a bright red it made it look dark in comparison...

    Interesting feedback :)

I'm still 50/50 on it myself, the price is still throwing me off but once they get into dealerships I'm sure good deals can be had. Plus dare I say I like the look of the Fiat 124 more, ha ha. Hopefully driving one in a few weeks.

The RF is still lighter than the soft top Abarth....... so a hard top Abarth will take it over the 1100kg range which is probably when they need to start talking about upping the power a bit.

    Decisions decisions!

Yes, I agree the Fiat 124 Lusso Plus does look more enticing at the mo.

    I await your feedback........

Bearing in mind the car in the video is a US spec Fiat 124 (160 bhp) with Auto gearbox, I'm just astounded by the wheel spin from rest.

The Goodwood Abarth was nothing like this car.
