200 BHP Possible on Supersport?
« on: February 16, 2014, 10:42:15 am »
First of all sorry if this comes across as a stupid noob (which I am) question but is 200 BHP fairly achievable on a Supersport? I havent even got the car yet (ready in March) and wont touch it during the 3 year guarantee. However after that I was hoping to tune it to the 200 mark and I would be happy at that. Naively I was hoping that a cone filter, larger exhaust and chipping would achieve that.

    With that box you'll get 200+ without changing any parts, it's plug and play too so it can be easy put in (or taken out for reasons)

    Mine is good at 163hp. Mine is 1 year old with 10000 miles on it and I think more HP would spoil it. You will find it difficult to use more power these days with all the traffic.

    @lethal

    No no no no, fair enough wanting to keep it standard because you like it that way but you will find it very very easy to use it. (unless you are literally in gridlock from leaving your house to the destination) Plus it has the brembo's and springs to cope with the power anyway so it's not even close to scary with it :D

    200bhp is not very much in the grand scale of things anyway its still totally drivable and a little more fun when you need it. The standard evo is underpowered from factory hence the super sport coming with 180bhp, so that it is more competitive with the rest of the class.

    Thanks Kid and Gary for the info. It sounds like its even easier than I thought. Traffic isnt an issue for me,I moved out of a city to escape traffic. The peak district is also on my doorstep which I enjoy on a regular basis.

    Unfortunately with the 1.4 multiair 200bhp is max anymore is a push and just luck of the bunch. If your looking for the edge would consider my methods and lighten the structure, trofeo race cars use a carbon compound on bonnet/boot/roof however these are exspensive and roof is a structure part and cage would need fitting, remove the rear wheel well pointless on the punto no spare, and inflation kit is small, the wheel well is heavy and can be replaced by, carbon sheeting plus some strength ting rods.

    For more power I've got a few tricks up my sleeve in the next few months. But look into polybushing the rear engine mount cheap and effective on the punto

    That sounds like a lot of work Jay and I wish you the best with your projects. I would be perfectly happy with 200 horses though to be honest. I wouldnt expect any more from a 1.4 and I also wouldnt want to strip the car or do any major modifications. I plan to keep the car mainly stock.

    The SS starts at 180BHP so add an Induction kit & remap the ECU to head over 200BHP, mine is at 178BHP on a normal APE.

    200hp is the safe option :) after that, uprated intercooler, decat and custom remap is the one which will probs gets you 225bhp and 240 torque, but your turbo will be little stressed so uprated actuator and spring will be wise.

    The GT1446 is good for 280+ hp

    The first thing you need to do is upgrade the actuator, there's a Forge item with a stronger spring that does the job nicely!

    AGP SS, EVO SS and Supersport will easily achieve between 210-230 hp with just a TMC box, the AGP SS has been dyno tested a good number of times

    gt1446 is not good for 280, you can do things with these turbos sure but longevity will be the downfall, have been running ~220 myself and just replaced a turbo after failure despite sub 3k oil changes etc.

    Honeywell list a number of turbos for different power outputs and for the small units the power target is rarely more than ~200 when you have a small housing an small compressor wheel, you'd really want something bigger for reliable power.

    The can obviously spin a lot faster, outside of the efficiency island but you are accepting shorter life.
