Beat the box-Chip box vs custom map
« on: August 19, 2017, 10:51:26 am »
So i was over at Dervtech tuning in Manchester whilst my brothers car was being tuned and asked if they would drop it on the rolling road to see what the box actually produces.

We wanted to see what sort of gains you get from the TMC box that i had fitted against a custom map. And the results were as follows:

Standard (No box): 169bhp
TMC box: 181bhp
Dervtech map:202bhp

Although i loved the TMC box and it produces exactly what it says, a custom map from the boys at Dervtech did an awsome job and the difference in performance is huge.

Next step is to change exhaust with decat and I have already changed the £10 ebay cone filter.
I will post the results once mapped with the new exhaust. Hoping to get around 220bhp.

What turbo are you running? IHI or Garrett?

I'm not taking anything away from the map, as a unique map is always better if done properly but you can easily manipulate a dyno to give desired figures (make it low before work, higher after etc).

Its the stock Garrett turbo. The dyno will always produce different results. The tests were done simply cos we was board whilst waiting for my brothers DPF to be removed.

They had no intention of mapping it until I began to get curious of what we could actually get from a map.

I do have the charts but the picture is too large for me to upload it.

Basically the box tricks the boost pressure which does give you a boost but dips then increases again but only ever producing 181bhp.
The map is a much more steady curve with no drops.
I did manage to get it to 204bhp by spraying some water on the intercooler but thats cheating.

The car could go higher but the cat was getting really hot and i didnt want to push it any further until it has been removed.

The Garrett 1446 was the only turbo fitted to the Evo/SuperSport/Scorpione/Esseesse
