Had my car a few months now, bought second hand, very happy so far. Just 1 thing is the exhaust note, my car has the esseesse kit fitted but the exhaust note seems like a standard rear box. Read some things online about popping and crackling, mine does none of this. wondering if the previous owner has removed the exhaust and replaced with a standard one before selling, been looking at pics online of the exhaust but I can't see a difference between them, is there a way I can check the authenticity. 

I was under the impression from looking online that the Esseesse kit comes with a different exhaust to increase performance and tone. have I misread

Yes the esseesse kit comes with a different exhaust. Original is 1 piece from the cat back. Esseesse one is two piece centre section and back box. From what I can see on mine it's also bigger bore. Don't think it's stainless. If you are going to get one go for supersprint. If you buy a supersprint back box it'll probs come with a sleeve to cut and join to your original 1 piece system

How many miles on the car and kit? As the kit may have been fitted at a later date and may have not had a chance to clog up the baffles and deepen the note yet.

Few options,
- Let the miles build up and see if the note actually deepens
- Try and find a off the shelf performance sports exhaust have a look here - http://www.italo-tuning.de/exhausts-engine-14-c-49_77_1981_1984.html - Just double check that it lists the Evo Multi-Air and not the T-Jet as they 'might' be different but other Punto owner will be able to double confirm that for you
- Get a custom exhaust shop to modify your factory exhaust, unsure if the factory Evo system is a single or twin silencer box system, if it is a twin box setup simply get the centre box removed to add some extra volume
