Just ordered a full set of PIAA bulbs as an upgrade. Thought it might be usefull to other's in posting this info especially in relation to bulb connection type (fitting) as there are three different bulb types contained within the Evo headlight unit.

HIGH/DIP = PIAA Night tech. Fitting is H4

SIIDELIGHTS = PIAA Xtreme white. Fitting is W5W (501) capless

DRL'S  = PIAA Xtreme white. fitting is T20 (7440)

Has been tried before, but no-one found any that would work properly.

I'd already fitted Halfords Superbrilliance bulbs to my Evo after I bought it last month. To be honest, they didn't seem to be much better than the bulbs already in ( maybe the previous owner had already fitted upgraded bulbs ! ). Anyway, having read and researched, I sent off for some Osram Powerbreaker Plus bulbs, which I fitted today. Because I'd not long changed the bulbs before, the connectors came off no problem. The previous post put the fear of God in me about breaking the clips, but I managed to do and undo them without any real difficulty. The more you do the job the easier it gets - you just have to do it by touch as you can't really see what you're doing. When doing the driver's side bulb, I undo the top of the air filter and move it to one side to get a bit better access.
The Osram bulbs are partially coated in a blue film, which presumably gives a " whiter " light than the standard bulbs. I'll see how I get on with them. There seems to be differing ideas around about how long they last, although Osram themselves admit they don't last anywhere near as long as standard bulbs. As long as they give an improved output I'm prepared to accept the possibility that one may go when I least want it to. I suppose I'll have to send off for some spares to carry in the car. I've got a Superbrilliance bulb as a spare for the moment. I've also read that you are supposed to have your headlights re-aligned after fitting new bulbs. Any views on that ? I've never done it before. Going out for a run after dark to see if the headlight beams seem OK and are properly aligned.

When I replaced the bulbs on my old AGP, I always felt the driver's side beam was a bit high, but I had the headlights checked at Platts using their proper beam setting equipment and they said both sides were fine and within all the usual tolerances. However, a few years ago I did manage to mess up fitting a headlight bulb in a Punto Sporting and the beam was all over the place till I realised I hadn't seated the bulb correctly.

Just been looking for these bulbs part numbers, so far I have the following:

HIGH/DIP = PIAA Night tech. Fitting is H4 - HE820

SIIDELIGHTS = PIAA Xtreme white. Fitting is W5W (501) capless - H222

DRL'S  = PIAA Xtreme white. fitting is T20 (7440) - H225 or H226

The DRL's are the ones I'm unsure of.

According to the PIAA website (Clicky) we have the following:

H225 - T20 SINGLE 582 LARGE CAPLESS 27W
H226 - T20 DOUBLE 580 LARGE CAPLESS 27/8W

I take it the single and double means the how many filaments? (Like Tail lights/Brake lights sometimes are dual filament) Which ones does the APE have? I'm guessing its single but I'm not sure.

Also does anyone know a good replacement for the fog lights?

Edit: just done some digging, looks like the fog lights are H11 fitting so the PIAA Night Tech HE824 should do
