Number plate bulb replacement
« on: November 23, 2014, 05:46:23 pm »
Given that changing bulbs at the front end of the Evo can be a real pain, when I got a message last night " check rear number plate bulb " I feared there would be more aggravation involved. Let's be honest, who's even looked at their number plate lights ? The hand book advised using pressure on one end of the light unit to remove it from the bumper so I went out to the car with a thin bladed screwdriver, expecting to have to prize away at a stubborn little plastic clip. The only way you can get to do it is by laying on your back and reaching up to the two light units. A piece of old carpet is handy to lie on for this purpose. That's as hard as it gets though. You don't even need a screwdriver, you can unclip the light unit with your finger ! Just push in the plastic tag and the unit drops out of the bumper, twin wires attached. These connect to the bulb holder which is a simple bayonet fixing in the top of the unit. Pull out the failed bulb and replace with another 501 W5W bulb. I even had one in stock !Reverse procedure and job done. Proves that not every job on you Evo has to be difficult.
